Who regulates Amazon? Can I complain to them?

Hi,
Not sure if this is in the right area, but I thought I'd throw this open to the experts.
I was browsing Amazon yesterday and wanted to buy a book. I got to the check out and there was another book in my basket. I thought that was strange. Checked with the wife she couldn't remember being on Amazon, so I contacted them.
They said it was an error and that the book I didn't know about had been put in the basket in March. I said I thought that was strange as I had bought stuff since then and it never appeared before. They removed it but when I went on later there was an ink cartridge in my basket! I've never bought one of these in my life! I mentioned this to Amazon and they said it was placed in the basket in the 15th September!
Been emailing them back and forth but basically not gettng a straight answer from them. They mentioned it could be because I shop on Amazon at public places such as libraries, internet cafes, but I don't. I use Amazon mostly at work and a little at home.
Who regulates Amazon? I want to take this further. They keep saying my details are secure, but after what happened to Son custoemrs I'm not so sure. Does someone have access to my Amazon account or are Amazon themselves at fault?
Any help or advice would be great..!
Thanks!

if you do leave things in the basket and come back months later they might well still be there.
why not just remove them?! surely you check your final invoice before you accept0 -
Change your password. Someone might be accessing your account.
Also, if you share a computer at work, make sure you log out from Amazon each time.0 -

it is your responsibility to keep your amazon details save and secure
it is your responsibility to make sure that your basket is empty when you leave and log out of your Amazon account.
so what do you want to complain to Amazon about?0 -
Sounds like op thinks their system is automatically adding products to their basket in the hope they don't realise and spend more.0
-
That's an odd problem, one I can't quite see how it's happening unless the op accesses his/her amazon account from say a Work PC?
I've got a feeling that Amazon track your basket through a combination of Cookies on your local machine, which sync to their servers for additional information, hence you can add stuff on one machine and it'll show it on another when you check and are logged in (I have a huge list of stuff in my "saved for later" basket).
However it won't let you purchase what's in your basket unless you enter the password again before it lets you buy anything or check order status.
I've never had anything added to my basket without me knowing about it, but I only ever use my amazon account from one of 2 machines at home.
If the op is using his amazon account at work (as he says), is he remembering to log out of the account at work properly, and is it on a machine that others use without necessarily having to log in with a different windows user account?
I suspect if others are using the machine at his work, they may be adding stuff to the basket then having to log his account out, and into their amazon account to purchase stuff.
Hence his basket may get left with items others have added before they logged into their own Amazon accounts.0 -
