Hi folks, First post here , and it's a good one. Here I will tell you "How I got my Tesco Club Card Credit Card - with poor credit"
I like you like the idea of getting points to earn and exchange for cash or goods. I shop at Tesco, I get my fuel from Tesco. I spend a lot at Tesco.
Seen the card , liked the terms and I can manage them well. My job involves a lot of driving so I spend about £80 in fuel a week.
Wife spends £500 a month on food at Tesco.
I have a poor credit and I'm currently in my 4th year or the 6 of a default I had on my file.
My file is 100% clear, Al settled, and no debt owed. I have a Cap one Credit Card had that for years and always been good with it, ( Just increased my limit recently)
I know I was going to get declined. I know.
So I still applied , Like many of you I went online completed the details and hit next.
"Congratulations, we can give you £400 but further checks are needed."
I thought great ill have that , they must have seen my club card points and thought I'm a big spender.
Few days that all changed. I got a letter simply saying NO and no £400 nothing.
I wrote a letter and with it sent a copy of my credit file showing them it's all clear and I can afford it.
Tesco wrote back a few days later and said NO.
It was daft sending them the report as they see that already. So how could I get one. and prove I can manage a card , even a £400 limit.
Having Tesco on your file as accepted is good , it means you can get credit. And Tesco are good to have on your file.
So I wrote another letter this time I sent in recorded delivery
This was my only chance....
5 days later I received a letter envelope with all my posted items and no cover letter. I though it's a defo no again.
3 days later I received another letter from Tesco Finance, Guess what.... It had a pin number for my New Tesco Club card Credit card with a limit of £400. YES . I did it .
Simple as that.
The point is I might have a bad credit file , but if I can prove I have funds now, and money in and out of a bank account I had a better chance.
Clearly this won't work for all of you if you have nothing over the past 6 months on income coming in.
But most of you like me and others I know it WILL WORK.
This is a not a trick, or some scam. It just a thing called. "Revaluating your application"
If wanted I have copies of letters sent and received to give you an idea what to do.
Good luck, and happy shopping.

- 6 months bank statements
- 6 months credit card statements
- 6 months wage slips
- A letter from existing card company increasing my limit

Well done to you.
I'm a bit confused though. How come if you are still in the 4th year of a default is your file clear? Or are you saying that your file is clear apart from the default?0 -

I think that he is saying that all his other accounts are up to date and paid on time expect for his default.
Tesco are very fussy my credit file is a 100% clear with no defaults however I have been turned down 3 times by Tesco so I find it very hard to believe that a mainstream lender has given a credit card to someone with adverse credit.0 -

Thats right Hello2007, my file shows all clear except one Natwest. Default from 2007 . Thats been setteled since 2009 it will still show that default and the number of times to Tesco and any lender.
Hello2007, you should send a letter with the proof of income and current finacials to get that card .
Importantly for me it will now show Tesco on my file which will look good to other lenders i assume.

When lenders search your file, they don't see the names of institutions you have accounts with, so it doesn't matter whether its a Tesco card, or Vanquis card, all they'll see is the type of account, limit, balance and repayment history.Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0

EXACTLY!!!
Its a good idea as you always get a way of appealing on a decisions as they will say that in the rejection letter they send. Its worth a try either way - that 400 quid account if manage well will go a long way to improve any file!0 -

Well done, I've found Tesco staff to be friendly and helpful when I used them. I started with £300 I think, and was upped pretty quickly. At the moment I've no need to use my card, but it's extremely reassuring to have it.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0
