Hello all,
Well....finally purchashed a refurb (I know I know!) 42 inch toshiba fullhd sl738b. 100hz-pic by far best in showroom (richer sounds could not even be bothered to phone back re: missing bit of stand/or to check stock).
Well pleased at 1st-FAB picture. Linked it up with my Virgin hd box (TIVO box with more memory upstairs for mo). Used HDMI supplied by virgin. 1 standard dvd player to scart 1 & ps2 to scart 2.
Ok....sporadically it 'cuts out' & says 'please re-tune' so have to go to hdm1 setting (remote-top button lets you go to all hdmi ports to select which one you want). VERY ANNOYING if watching something -however you can allways re-wind. Is there something I'm doing wrong????! Dodgy HDMI leads??? i followed v+ box instructions on screen to the letter to set it up for hd.
I'm SO annoyed as spent a bit over budget & its a 40 min drive there. I can get a FULL refund witin 7 days-but the pic is SO good. Is there anything I can do to cure this? Is it the TV or the virgin box?
God-wish I'd stuck with my old tv (!). Please help & no 'I told you so's' about refurbs (!).

Sorry, is the problem with the TV or the TIVO box?
If it's the picture then the problem is the tivo, the TV is only taking the picture that is being supplied from the tivo box.
Change the HDMI lead, you can pick up a new lead in most pound stores and check again. Make sure the HDMI port on the tivo is not loose.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
Thanks for the reply! It's the picture-on normal viewing it just 'goes' & a blue screen comes up-saying 'please re-tune'. Then straight away-if we go the the HDMI1 setting from remote (where VM signal is coming from)-we can get pic again! N.B. No-aeriel in box/tv-just VM. HDMI supplied by virgin. Intermittent issue-earlier 4 hours with NO issue. It's the original Samsung HD box (less memory I know but we don't record much HD & GF hate TIVO controls)-TIVO box upstairs.
Read somewhere it could be the inbuilt freeview tuner causing this issue??? When we did the initial set up we had VM & dvd player on standby as said in manual. Was also reading about a 'power down' reset of box-should I do this?
Would you also reccomend another HDMI? Will also check connections on tv.
From what I'm gathering its not the tv-more a VM issue.
Worth re-tuning it?0 -
Didnt know RS did "Refurbished"0

This sounds kind of similar to an occasional problem I have with my TV, if I'm understanding correctly (I have VM and a Tesco's Technika TV). Sometimes I'll be watching VM (/playing on my Xbox/watching a DVD on the built-in player) and the TV changes away from the correct input (HDMI/Scart) to another one (called AV1 or something - always the same one) which causes a blue screen, and I then have to manually select the one I just had it on.
I can see this is what it's doing because when I select the input source it comes up with a list of them all, which highlights the one currently in use. This sounds like what is happening to you, as you have to select the HDMI 1 source to fix it, if I understand you? It's pretty frustrating when I'm watching something (I have basic VM so can't rewind!), and mainly seems to happen after I've switched from one input to another, although not until about 5/10 minutes later.
I don't have an answer for what's causing it, but if your problem is similar to mine I doubt it's the TV, as mine is a different brand. I don't think it's a cable problem either, as mine happens when switching between any combination of Xbox (HDMI), VM (scart) or DVD (built-in), although I realise you haven't mentioned anything about switching between sources, so maybe it's a different cause.
Hope you sort it anyway!0 -
After 2 blissfull weeks of HD viewing....pictures dropping AGAIN as in post 1. new cables, everything tight etc....must be a virgin media hd transmission issue. Anyone else had this? Worth calling their technical people??0

Update...! OK....Virgin engineer came out-very knowledgable guy-BRAND NEW (not refurb) Samsung v+HD box-new scart lead/different HDMI socket. Still dropping out occaisionally! Called ELECTROTEC where I got it from-swapping for same model (new ones been tested for this fault apparently) tomorrow. Well impressed with ELECTROTEC-usually its a '7 day no quibble money back' guarantee (although the warrenty is for a year)....but not an issue with them. Did explain to their engineer that the 'dropping out' happened 1st night at set-up-but I thought it was just me being not very effecient at the set-up (!) so didn't report it. Besides-it did not drop out for the next week (!)
So...a bit of a hassle driving to swap it but hey it';s gonna get sorted. Thanks again for all your help!0 -
Just excahnged for same model...no issues at all!
Remote however is dodgy (just puts lots of '8's whatever I press???!) so either collecting/sending another.
Anyone any idea if I can progame my virgin remote (or indeed my LG BLU-RAY remote) to access the 'menu' buttons (that shows the various HDMI APORTS ETC) ???0
