Been with BG for over 5years

2 Bed flat in London

Homecare 200 - £25.90 a month

I think its way too much? I'm trying to get a gauge of what other people pay.

Cheers

London prices can be higher... and i assume a few breakdowns as well in there, but not many! if you have less than 3 breakdowns a year their flexi package (paying the 1st £50 FOR A FIX) may drop your payments down to £15ish.

people like halloween jack probably has a boiler that never breaks, thus homecare and such are useless, maybe doesnt even live in london to know you pay thru the nose as well!
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

HomeCare 200 starts at £17 per month but prices vary inside the M25

Do you really need the extra cover for the full central heating system, you could drop to HomeCare 100 (Boiler & Controls) which starts at £13 per month, but again price increases inside the M25

  • There are a few downsides to the Homecare insurance.

    1. It is very expensive for what you get.
    2. Thousands of people paid lots of money for the cover and found that BG did not repair the problem when they were called out because:

Parts were not available any more. The fault wasn't covered.
They tried time and again, but did not manage to cure the problem and finally the owners were told they needed a new boiler. In many a case, that was not due to the boiler being beyond hope, but for lack of competence/effort of the “engineers”.

    3. The chances of pipes or radiators leaking on a properly installed and maintained system, are extremely low; unless the premium is very low, it really isn't worth it.

SSE Full Central heating cover £16.90 per month. Full electrical cover £4 a month. Full cover includes £40 credit to fuel bills. If they can't fix it they replace the boiler!

Terms and conditions apply of course, like:
Only if the boiler is less than X years old.
    User's contribution might be required.
Only cheapest available boiler will be offered.
Only certain problems are covered, others are not.

    A constant debate....
boiler cover works for some people... doesnt work for others... just like theirs people who would insure toasters if someone offered insurance for them.

everyone likes to feel comfortable for certain things, and this is one of them.
