LUSH - is it worth it?

  • I have used lush products on and off for about 12 years and found with their skin care that it would work for a couple of months and then I would break out horribly. With acne/spots the best thing is to treat your skin as gently as possible. I use Avene skin care and it has drastically improved my skin - i am oily with hormonal breakouts, and even those have gone since I've been using Avene. You can get free samples from their website after you fill in a questionnaire about your skin.

  • Thanks everyone for their advice - much appreciated!

Unfortunately I had to text hubby the list to get from Lush almost as soon as I started this thread, so was not able to make use of alot of the tips. Our nearest Lush is 5 hour drive away, hubby is in UK for work and 'just happened to be passing' one so told me I had 10 mins to text him back the list. Hubby has never been in Lush and hates texting so was very funny trying to send him the list 'angels on what?! they sell cupcakes? I don't see any!' In the end this is what we got.

    Angels on Bare Skin cleanser
    Cupcake facemask
    Enzymion moisturiser
    Sample of Dark Angels

and I got a 'Celestial' for my mum too.

I know there are cheaper products out there that work - I just know DD has been wanting some Lush for awhile, she's also trying to go 'green' so I know even though this still has some chemicals she appreciates it for that reason too. We will be moving soon so may be able to avail of the advice of helpful Lush staff you all attest to! If it works, she should be able to afford it herself as she worked over the summer and I believe she now has more expendible cash then me!

aluiro2 - where do you buy 'shield' soap?

melancholly - I've been thinking of trying Superdrugs Vit e rang for myself when my present products run out, isn't it for more for older skin though? Do you think it would work on more oily skin?

  • I love lush products. I agree, they do seem fairly expensive, but I bought Celestial in February and I've still got half the pot left. I use it twice a day, every day - a little does go a long way and I'm fairly sure I won't need to purchase it again until next Feb (which is when its best before date says I should replace it!). Hopefully it'll be the same for your mum, and for the enzymoin moisturiser (can't say I've ever used that, sorry!)

The only problem with the facemasks is that their best before date is 3-4 weeks, and you need to keep them in the fridge. I've used cupcake before, its a good one and isn't too harsh on the skin. Just make sure she uses it a good few times before it goes off, or that'd just be a waste of money. Hope this helps in some way!
In the end the journey's brought joys which outweigh the pain.

You can freeze the facemasks. I put half in the freezer and it keeps for months.

  • I am a Lush devotee. I was suckered in years ago by the smell and have loved the products ever since. I have tried pretty much everything (they will give testers if you ask) and have found even after trying the most expensive products elsewhere (when I was rich and stupid) that I return to my old faithfuls. My skin was super oily & spotty but now combination - and Angels on Bare skin is a lifesaver. I think it is the lavender (which I hate!) that works for me as Celestial moisturiser also works. I like the Blueberry face mask too.

Anyway - before I ramble on - you can get Lush bits online (easier than driving for 5 hours).....and if she finds a face mask that works for her, look at the ingredients. They are surpisingly easy to make yourself, fun and inexpensive. Usually they are based on Kaolin/clay (buy online), oil (ocm mix is great) and fresh fruit.

I don't use a lot of Lush these days as it's too expensive for me for everyday, but I used to have nearly all Lush stuff and my skin was lovely!

Figs and leaves soap is one I try to keep around - it's a terrific body soap - exfoliates really satisfyingly and moisturises as bit. One of my long time faves.

I dont use Lush products myself but do buy them for pressies, I cant recommend products for you but I can say that Lush staff are easily the nicest and most helpful I have come across (its not often I say such things;)) so it would be worth having a chat with them before you buy:)

You are lucky then, the assistants in my local store are really pushy, and pounce the minute you walk into the shop, i would just like to be able to browse in peace....

well i'm early 30s so i hope that's not old these days ;)

i like some bits more than others. i love the skin oil - works a treat. i do have quite dry skin though, so maybe that wouldn't suit you so well. there are so many amazing reviews out there for the range though - might be worth googling the individual products and seeing what they say?

just been on their website and it looks like quite a few items are 50% off again - for £1.49 for each item, it's worth giving them a go! between that and using ELF for make up, i'm saving a small fortune!

LOL, During the summer I went into the one in Dublin and I felt a bit hounded. I was really just curious as I'd never bought LUSH before and wanted to see what all the fuss was about (I've friends who rave about it). Within 10 minutes I walked out - I felt so overwhelmed by all the black and white packaging, wierd names you have to read the whole blurb to find out what it is and what it does and assistants hanging over my shoulder - I am very much a browse in peace, guarding my purse type! Though I do appreciate they are only doing their job, and alot of people really value the assistance. DD1 brought back a LUSH newspaper/flyer thingy home from her trip to London and I perused that over a cup of tea, and made my shopping list which was much more my style. Going shopping with my granny, she's the opposite, she'll ask for assistance/recommedations immediately and complains staff don't serve you like they used to - funny how we each have our own shopping styles.
