    lol, maybe check your docs
  • Thanks for that info - have checked online to make sure it is insured. Not really funny about checking docs - that is where the problem lies!!!! Did a change of car on Monday - documents arrived today - one certificate shows insurance starting October, other certificate shows insurance starting November. Another certificate shows that the insurance starts on Monday but was actually for the old car that we had sold (a Fiat) but checking this on the website it now shows as a BMW. I rang today to ask them to sort out the paperwork and the first person I spoke to looked at all the details and told me that he had now cancelled the insurance, effective immediately. Panic stations as my son was driving around in the car (his car/his insurance). I told him that I did not want the insurance cancelling, just wanted the documentation correct. He insisted that they could not backdate the insurance and he couldn't do anything anyway as he was customer services and if I wanted to take out a new policy I had to go to sales. A few more people later on and I had to go through all the details again and they said they would start the policy today (insisting still that they could not backdate the policy). I just could not get through to them. They kept on saying that they could not understand what my problem was. They then said that the additional premium would be £400 - this was on top of the £750 additional premium charged on Monday and on top of the original £1300 for the policy - this was for the same car, same conditions etc. as had been agreed on Monday. I then said just to make sure it was insured which they promised it was but in light of what went on I just did not trust them which is why I wanted to be able to check for myself. I spent an hour and a half on the phone today trying to sort it out - spoke to about 5 different people not one of which seemed to grasp the situation. It just looks as if the paperwork was prepared by someone who was intoxicated at the time.

Which insurance company was it, so that we all know how bad their customer service could be ?

  • Admiral. They insist that they have only done what I requested. AND THEY HAVE THE TELEPHONE RECORDINGS TO PROVE IT!!!! (so they say) I have a certificate insuring the old car from the Monday (why would I want to insure a car that is already insured with them?) The policy schedule shows the old car reg no. but the new car details. I have a certificate insuring the new car from October until November and then insuring the same car from the November until May - and apparently that is what I requested and they just don't see what the problem is. The customer services said they couldn't quote for insurance that far ahead so he would cancel the whole policy and I would have to start again but he couldn't do it I would have to go to the sales department. This is a multi car policy and my car is due to be included in November but certificate shows my son's car. Obviously they are not equipped to handle these multi car policies. The new owner is now running around in a Fiat that actually shows up on the MID database as a BMW. I wonder what repercussions this would have if he were stopped by the police.
  • I have now received documentation saying that bmw cover was cancelled on 11/11/2011!!!! Told to return certificate immediately which I was told to throw away previously!!! Rang up and told that policy change came into effect on the 23rd but would show on documents as 28th as that was the day they would be sending out and they could not backdate. Payment schedule enclosed looks as if I have not paid so not convinced that car is covered. Really getting fed up of spending all the time talking to so many different people and getting nowhere.
