Cleaning a yellow radiator

Afternoon all,

Just taking a break from frantically flinging stuff in boxes. Whilst we've had the house and the builders in for the last few months we could stand it no more and we're moving tomorrow.

Popped in for a quick once over and OH has done a terrific job with the decorating but all the radiators are yellow or yellowing, without painting them is there anything that will clean them up or is it a glossing job (which we want to avoid as we've got a baby and it'll stink the place out).

Also, does anyone want to help us shift our stuff tomorrow :D

Thanks in advance!

They'll probably need repainting. You can buy special paint for radiators that withstands the heat better than normal paint, but I have just used whatever emulsion I'm using on the walls to paint the radiators and they were fine. You just have to be careful when cleaning them as the paint can peel.

    Hi starjumper,

I agree with Gigervamp, repainting is the only way to sort out yellowing radiators and takes much less time than hours of scrubbing would do.

I paint mine with water-based satin paint, durable and washable like gloss but not as shiny and there's hardly any smell. The last lot I used was value range from Focus that I got cheap when it was closing, it did a great job.

Crown do a quick dry satin that is virtually odour free:
