SORN - Cancelling insurance

I'm waiting to see as well. There's enough posts on here about them, someone must complain to the FOS eventually.
(There was the thread abouts Swintons and the motorbike inurance, with add ons, (unasked for add ons) but that was simply refunded in full, with no quibbles, so that proves it can be done.)0 -

It's the other way round, a car is required to be insured unless it is off road and SORN. If you decide to keep it insured while it is SORN, that is up to you..0 -
Again, I'd go for the Laid Up Accidental Damage fire and theft route, lots of people on call centres will not have heard of this, so stick with it and ask for someone over 45
This way with LUADF&T cover, your vehicle wouled still be covered if the garage collapsed, but you are merely advising them that the Road Risk element is no longer needed.0 -
I can't believe how many responses I've had to this, thank you all so very much, I'm not giving up on this, will phone again and see how I get on.

Right, just got off the phone.
Spoke to a really helpful guy who told me that I DO NOT have to cancel my policy, he went and checked with a supervisor after I told him what his colleague had advised me.
I can't downgrade, however, without incurring a charge, forgot to ask what that charge would be, may have to ring them again but, looking at insurance rates and bearing in mind I have full no claims, 3rd party fire and theft probably wouldn't be much cheaper anyway. Also I'm not sure how long I will be SORNing my car for as it will mean relying on hubby for lifts and son's car in emergencies so will see how it goes but will save a bit of money in the meantime and make me walk more.
Have suggested that he passes back what the woman told me earlier as she obviously requires more training as she catergorically told me I had to ring as soon as I SORNed my car to cancel the policy!!:eek:
Thanks again guys

it can often be cheaper to insure fully comp than tpf+t so down grading may cost you more anyway;)Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

That's exactly why I think I will just let the policy run for now, not worth the hassle but at least I know I CAN keep the policy and DON'T have to cancel it as I was originally advised.
