in Credit cards
i have been contacted by a company called "tucan claims" basically saying taht i am entitled to compensation due to my credit card companies upping my limit without me signing new terms and conditions. they say that this has invalidated my contract.
they want £250 up front to work this claim through. saying that i wont pay the £250 because it will be on one of the cards i am claiming against and all payments on that card will become null and void.
anybody else know anything about this or had dealings with "tucan claim"s?

It's a scam!
If you give them £250 you will never see it again.0 -
Definitely a con, tell them to get lost if they ring again.0

Credit card company credit agreements are variable. Because they write out to tell you of the increase it is valid. You can always say no to an increase and opt to decrease it.
So say you owe £2k on a card.... they now say card is nill and void as contract broken... card company will want 2k back straight away.... can you afford it????
If you can afford £250 to pay a scammer you might as well put it towards your card bill!!0 -
Search the forum. there are plenty of people who have been ripped off by companies claiming they can write off the debt for various technicalities.
In reality they just charge hundreds or thousands of pounds than give crap advice which ruins your credit rating. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

My 85 year old grandfather was called by Tucan. He's not due anything back! Totally confused him adn he ended up confirming credit card details that they gave him!!! Not good. We have since e mailed called and wrote to them not surprisingly no response. Trying to get someone on the phone is impossible and an elderly hard of hearing man is down 249.99!! Disgusting. Allegedly there is a 14 day cooling off period. Not sure how that works when you can't get hold of anyone. Disgusting targetting the elderly. Any tips please suggest!0

Hmmm, they have very odd terms and conditions on their website: http://www.tucanclaims.co.uk/terms/, which don't appear to have been created by a professional.
The first party seems to switch between being the customer and Tucan Claims. In some places it reads like a FAQ, but without questions. And terms such as 'I,' 'We' and 'The Company' are not defined.0 -

Giving your credit card details over the phone is not the same as authorising a transaction. The best you can do is to attempt to reconstruct the conversation and then use this as the basis of a dispute. It might be a struggle. If your grandfather simply got confused and agreed to the payment, then it's more tricky. In this case, try to exercise cancellation under the cooling off period. Distance Selling Regs (unless I'm missing something) gives him this right anyway. Do it in writing and keep a copy. If still no refund, then claim under s75 from the CC.0 -
