I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade the current CPU on my machine? I believe I am still on Intel 2 cpu (2GHz) don't know much about cpu's so need a bit of guidance, will it also be possible to upgrade the Ram to say 4G DDR3 1333MHz. Thanks

For advice on upgrading your cpu you need to provide detailed information regarding the motherboard. Motherboards can only take certain cpu's and if you are close to the limit then a small upgrade would be of little benefit.
If you don't understand much about cpu's then I would strongly advise you get an expert to look at doing the work if that's the way you intend to go.
Initially follow the advice of 'closed' (above) and run the crucial memory checker on their site. I've used it a few times and find it excellent.0 -
Changing the CPU on a laptop is a lot more involved than upgrading one on a desktop CPU; while it's certainly possible, I doubt it'll be worth the expense when you also include labour costs.
Upgrading the memory is another matter - how much do you have currently? And are you using Vista?0 -
I am currently running Win XP, I have 2 gig of Ram currently which I think I will upgrade to 4 gig as its pretty cheap to do. Think I will leave the CPU alone then! the reason for the upgarde is because I am using a bit of music software & I want it to have as much resources as possible. I am happy with the laptop as its a great work horse.0

check your commit charge in task manager, if it's under 2GB when you are using the software, it's unlikely to make any difference!!

If it's a Dell Latitude D630 then it takes DDR2 memory and any ram upgrade must be of this type (DDR3 won't fit or work)

I'd also agree that upgrading the CPU isn't usually worth the bother, firstly you need to ensure of what CPU upgrades will work with your laptop as there's only a selection of electrically and physically compatible CPU's that will work.... plus getting hold of one usually means paying a lot from a specialist supplier (most computer spares retailers don't supply many/any laptop CPU's) or going to Ebay.

Yes you can upgrade the CPU but there is little point as it is only a minor difference. The RAM in the ones I sell is DDR2 so you're not going to be fitting DDR3...
2GB of RAM is more than enough for 99% of users on XP and even Vista/Win7.
The hard drive fitted to D630's is quite slow so maybe getting a quicker one or even looking at a SSD might be the best way to speed it up.0
