As Martins weekly e-mail says - "all big 6 now hiked prices, PERFECT time to check and switch."

My question is, should we really swap, surely if the 'big 6' have upped their prices, surely everyone else is going to follow suit? so is there really any point in swapping?

  • get your annual energy figures from your current supplier and put them in the comparison sites - then look at your own current tariff and see if by swapping you`ll save money.....
  • Yes.

I didn't think its was worth doing as I thought the same, they are all raising their prices.
When I got the latest newsletter this week, I looked on comparision site and found my current supplier(Npower) had a cheaper tariff. I didn't want to switch on line(too lazy to type!) so I just called NPower and I got switched to a cheaper tariff. I was on Standard, now on Online 123. Its a saving of £250 a year.
Have you meter readings and your monthly spend at hand. It so easy from there.

    I'm not sure either tbh.

Everyone says switch but a lot of people have been charmed by initial cheap prices only for them to hugely inflate months later.

  • im just applied to switch from scottish power standard tariff to npower sign online 23 using moneysupermarket. will make a small saving. now how do i claim my £30 cashback from moneysupermarket??
  • I have also plugged in my numbers and moneysupermarket has suggested a cheaper tarrif. Under the results box it says "£30 cashback" but both the "apply online" and "apply by phone" buttons are greyed out - so how do I apply for this tarriff through them so that I get my £30 cashback?

    Thanks for any suggestions!

You don't have to do anything to 'claim' your cashback. Terms and conditions here if you're interested:

This is of course assuming that you got clicked through to moneysupermarket.com from the line on the main MSE website. If not then I'm afraid you won't get the cashback.

I've just done the number crunching with the comparison sites and they all come out recommending NPower against my supplier of Scottish Power my question however ,are these comparisons giving a true picture concerning NPower as their prices don't go up till 1st October or are they using the new prices now and so giving a true comparison? Thanks in advance
Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.
  • I have spoken to nPower as I was concerned that Online 23 would increase on the 1st of October. It won't which I later confirmed from their website.
However there is no guarantee that it will not increase shortly after.
I may reconsider and go for the Scottish Power online tarif instead.:undecided
  • remember npower operate a deferred discount- please read carefully exactly how that works or you will lose the discount.
  • Just done a comparison, as per my other post, have saved £400. Its not too late !
