eBay taking a cut of all funds

Can someone please explain why eBay takes some funds from each payment I receive?

The first payment I ever received via Paypal said it was via a credit card funded paypal account (something like that). It said unless upgraded to Account Type: GB Premier then the payment would not be accepted.

I upgraded and now it takes a cut each time. Would it have done this if they were not credit card funded?

Can I change back to a normal account and is there anyway to tell is someone is paying with a credit card funded paypal account rather than a bank account one?

Also how do I see all items I have sold since the start. When I delete them from my 'Items I sold' I cant seem to find them again.

Thanks

    My Ebay page
left hand side - My Account -click on -> eBay preferences

    Under heading My eBay Preferences
Retrieve removed items: Check Retrieve Box - click apply.

    Thanks

That has bought most of them back, can I not retrieve more than 60 days back?

Customise seems a bit pointless in that it does not bring anything back, how does it work?

Yes, you can change back - BUT ONLY ONCE!! If you ever want to upgrade again, you are stuck there.

And no, you can never tell how someone made their payment (to the best of my knowledge) you only get to see that they have paid you.

In short, PAYPAL SUCKS. By not differentiating between these payments, they are ripping you off. It would be very easy for them to do so, but then they wouldn't make as much money, would they?!

Is it possible to tell that I'm not their biggest fan yet?

If you convert back to a basic paypal account you can no longer show that you accept paypal on your auction listings. Not accepting paypal will seriously reduce your end price.

Thank you so much Jonni2bad and soolin

It seems like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place then. It could be only the first person used a creditcard to fund their paypal account and I may have been better of rejecting it to save on all the others.

Not differentiating is a bit crappy to say the least but to lose the 'I accept paypal' to return to the basic version is complete naff.

Quite agree paypal sucks, but at least I get something for my items rather than nothing.

Can anyone confirm whether you can accept payment by debit card with a Paypal Personal account. The Paypal website isn't very clear:

    "Personal Account
Ideal if you shop online. Make secure payments on eBay and merchant websites using your credit card, debit card or bank account.

    Premier Account
Perfect for both buying and selling. Make secure payments on eBay and merchant websites. Plus, accept credit card, debit card and bank account payments for low fees."

This seems to imply that you cannot accept ANY Paypal payments with a "Personal" account but presumably you can accept Paypal payments that are funded by a direct bank transfer (ie direct debit) so it's just the debit card position which is a grey area (as Delta cards still go through the VISA clearing system but the merchandising charges usual operate under a different structure than for credit cards).

    Anyone know??????

Paypal is US run and seem to have problems telling the difference between debit and credit cards. Most debit cards carry one of the major credit card symbols such as 'VISA' and the system picks these up as credit cards and it triggers the upgrade message.

On a basic account you can really only take payments from a balance already showing as a credit in the buyers paypal account, in other words the buyer also has to be a seller that keeps a balance in their account.

I run more than one paypal account, and in each case the very first payment I received triggered the 'upgrade' message. I would hazard a guess that most people clear their paypal balance automatically so no one ever really has a transferable balance.
