PPI Success, and question re claiming...

Thanks, MSE!:T
I have just successfully received a letter from Halifax Ireland, offering to repay PPI taken out on a mortgage cover as I was self employed - the policy ended 5 years ago as my business broke up and I sold the house etc. Just over £1000 back!
So - this makes me think - I also had loans and credit cards with PPI insurance at the time, however after a few years of repayments ended up defaulting (as I couldn't claim on the PPI due to being self employed in the first place!)and eventually making full and final settlements with these loans/cards.
Can I still claim even though I have made F&F settlements?
Advice appreciated!
Thanks :-)

In theory yes - but first it will be necessary for the surviving evidence to be sufficiently persuasive.
It is also possible that the firm could argue that you ought to have realised you had cause for complaint when the claim was declined and timebar.
In addition, if it did find in your favour, it is likely that any redress would be set off against the debt in the first instance.0 -
Thanks, Magpie
That what I was wandering, would it be set off against the debt even though we came to a full and final settlement?
I didn't actually ever make a claim on the insurance as I had worked out by that point that it was not actually going to help me at the time. I do remember feeling furious, though, that I had paid all these insurances though and when I needed them they were rubbish!!
I'm thinking I should be happy with my small windfall, and let the past stay the past......?!!0
