Dog eating stones from plant pot?

Hello.
I have a very poorly dog ( 18 mnths ago the vet said he only had a couple of mnths left).
He is athritic, has critical kidney problems.
He is eating ok but now very selective, gone off his usual wet & dry foods, he has problems walking and cannot climb the stairs anymore and has a catarract in one eye, poor dog.
He has taken to eating the stones from my pot plant, ||I have actually seen him do it and his poo has the stones in it.
He is obviously not getting all the minerals he needs why else would he do it?
Any suggestions please, even if I remove the plant, it does not solve the problem of his diet.

Sorry to hear your dog's having a few problems but he obviously done pretty well so far having well outlasted "prognosis" time.
I'd have a chat with your vet and see what they suggest - it does sound as if he's not getting enough from what he's eating.
Re the plant pots/stones, I'd try to remove as many as possible as the last thing you need is for him to get a blockage from eating one.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Please don't let him eat the stones, a neighbour's dog had to have emergency surgery but sadly died anyway due to doing this.

I second the suggestion to go the vet.0
