Can anyone help me please.I am with sky at the moment but finishes with 30 days notice to quit.
I am after a freesat box, I have all the gubbins on the aerial so fitting would be no problem.
what I need to know is would the above model satisfy all my needs, I have a PS3 connected, I like to record series and films, no connection to my PC for gaming or anything.
What I don't understand is the difference in prices of the Humax, I have seen specs but can see no difference but some are about £350 and the above model is £250?
I am sure there are some differences but I can't see what they are, ..help anyone?
Thank you.

Don't be connecting it to the aerial now! Connect the 2 satellite feeds that are currently into your Sky box into it. There are 2 different hard drive versions, 320gb and 500gb. Is there a 1TB version now too or are you just looking at expensive websites?
As a comparison, on a new Sky+HD box, you're allowed 250gb to record in, so if that's plenty for you, then 320 gb will be too.0 -
i don't think you get Dave on freesat (last i heard anyways), i stand to be corrected.
i.e. ensure you know what channels you do get and that you're happy with them. Freeview and Freesat do not offer identical channels.0 -

I did just what you are thinking of doing a week ago and had problems with the Foxsat. It seems there is a problem they know about but don;t tell you. See my thread "Humax Vs Sky+" Have now gone back to paying Sky £10 a month for their Freesat using a secondhand Sky+ HD box. Easy and quick to use. So my advice is to see if Sky will change your card to a Freesat from Sky card, pay the £10 a month and stay with the system you are used to.
Oh did you realise that the current Humax Foxsat box will soon be replaced? If you do go this route it may be worth waiting a couple of months to get the later improved model.0 -

do you happen to work for sky, humax is great and old sky box works ok WITHOUT paying sky anything.0 -
The only issues I have had with mine is the please wait and its fairly recent problem, other than that the box when purchased when it first came out in November 2 years ago has been great
I have several Humax boxes including the new one for freeview HD (1GB) and kids have have a Humax freeview box and we and an old 8000 one which must be 8 years old by now
I wouldn't hesitate to buy Humax they got a good reputation for quality and support, occasional pvrs do have a problem I doubt you will find any device that doesn't occasionally have one, at least Humax continue to support products for many years
As for sky no thanks dont want it0 -
Humax boxes are fab - both the Freeview and the Freesat versions. I've had both -currently the Freeview version - and they are incredibly reliable, easy to use and function superbly. You don't need a degree in electronics to operate them either - I would highly recommend them, best Freeview /sat boxes we've had, even though the Topfield came close, its unreliable power supply meant we had two replacements of the Toppy before giving up on it when the Humax came out.
Go for the Humax, its superb.0 -
No I do not and never have worked for Sky! I just found the Humax system so cumbersome you cannot do anything simply as even deciding what to watch means pressing several buttons in the right order!
If you read my thread you will see I am not alone in my opinion, ZEE, you need to pay the £10 to use the record, pause etc.
Perhaps someone can explain why Humax need 55 buttons in seemingly illogical order on the remote! Don't tell me it is to adjust the TV, who needs to do more than adjust the volume?
Anyway the poster asked for our views so I have given mine!0 -
Thank you all for your input.
Having read further into the Humax I have decided it is not for me, not just the comments on the controls but I would not be able to watch my favourite channel FX even with freestat, so it is a no no.
Looks like I am stuck with sky then!You live..You learn.:)0 -

If you find a (legal) way to get pay tv channels for free let me know. I have the same problem with Sky Movies. Just can't seem to get it on Freeview or Freesat.I've even had a look at the 'unlisted' channels.
Not that I'd swap my Foxsat for Sky even if it were free.0
