Is our electricity bill too high?

It's a risk but it's the same risk as in the day time. Test smoke alarms every 6 months. It's more than a few pence and it's multiplied by 365 days so saving about 11p per night (the saving of moving 1kWh per day from the day rate to the night rate) could save £40 per year.jeepjunkie wrote: »Was there not an ad on TV about running appliances at night in case of fire??? Not to mention noise whilst trying to sleep... Just to save a few pence
A source from google http://www.crowboroughpeople.co.uk/night-didn-t-check-appliances/story-13077285-detail/story.html:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Hello,
Last winter I noticed the night storage heaters were still on at 9am which meant I was paying exorbitant rates. I had a new smart meter installed. (companies are paying 9 billion pounds for these and have ordered 47 million). I realised the timer (which is part of the meter) was an hour and ten minutes slow so running into peak rate again. There are several law suits in US regarding these new smart meters. They are also vunerable to hacking. If they can't even keep time accurately then it doesn't inspire confidence that they can accurately meter electricity consumption. I've tried 'watchdog', mp, ombudsman, ofgem (impossible to contact). If you haven't got hours of spare time just pay up like the rest of the population and realise it is futile to do battle against these multi-national companies with the politicians in their pockets.0
