    We had this problem too.
Bank said they could only go into a joint account.
If one of you has a bad credit rating and the other doesn't DO NOT open a joint account. It will link your credit histories and when previously one of you was able to get credit, this will be damaged by the others bad credit rating.

In the end we just requested that the person who sent the cheque sent us another one just in my husbands name. They did it no problem.

Did they have your first names, too?

We had a couple just to Mr and Mrs Phreak

Thankfully, my parents are also Mr and Mrs Phreak, so they just paid them in and transferred the money - simples!
  • They had first names and one was to Mrs codemonkey maidenname which was a bit odd but was from my crazy uncle. We just went to the bank we both have accounts with and opened a basic joint account and paid it all in there. At least that way it wont get lost in our current accounts.

This name changing thing is a bit of a hassle.

Innit - 3 months on & I have changed nothing, other than my work email :o
  • Until today all I'd changed was my name on facebook :o

I am so not looking forward to the name change thing. I've got myself set for the change at work and am dreading that as I've been there over 20 years, I work with a massive group of people all over the world and apparently there's no way my old e-mail will divert to a new one or link them to it, so they'll just get an undeliverable message. If it was my maiden name I'd keep it at work but it's my first married name and seems wrong to use that when I have a new hubby!

I can't wait to change my name everywhere. Not because I dislike my current name or anything I am just excited about making it official everywhere. Luckily I am right at the beginning of my career so it isn't going to be an issue changing it :)
  • If you are concerned about the credit history linking, open a building society/bank savings account not a current account.
  • haha thanks for all picking up on my spelling mistake haha

and our cheque was mr and mrs wheeler
they did say that they wouldn't do it if it was a big amount (both cheques were £50 each)
