Confused with "payment received" email, not from paypal.

Options
Hi
Just a bit confused over an item I've sold and the payment email I've received.

I have my buyer settings set, as most do, to exclude what could be problematic buyers/bidders, also on my BINS I make instant payment compulsory, not just requesting it but actually checking the box so they have to pay immediately by paypal.

Normally I get an email from paypal, along the lines of "notification of instant payment" and the sender is a paypal email address

Today I sold an item as normal, £60, then got an email that said "notification of payment received" and the email address isn't paypal but xxxxx@inbox.lv

I didnt click on any links in the email. I logged into paypal on a different browser and sure enough the payment was showing and stating eleigible for seller protection. Also the sale "shouldn't" have went through until a valid paypal payment was received but I have never had this before,

Am I just being paranoid?

Cheers

I have just checked and in my last 20 or so sales, not one is from Paypal. They are from the sellers email but are the standard paypal text.

log in to paypal by typing the url in to the address bar and look at your account and follow the advice on safe to post or not.

They have not said how they logged in, they could have followed the same e,mail on another machine.

    Right, to clarify.
My payment notifications normally come from paypal and all say "notification of instant payment received" this one isn't from paypal but instead from an individual with a foreign email address and a uk postal address. I just thought it starnge and was wondering if anyone had experience of getting payment notificationd from non paypal email addresses. For instance I could send an email to the sellers email with the titl "notification of payment received" and cut paste a paypal page IYSWIM.
  • PayPal recently changed something, so dependent upon how people pay the notifications appear to come from the purchaser's email address rather than from PayPal's email address. I take payments through my own website and noticed this change around a month or so ago.

The OP is the seller not the buyer.

Ignore the email just go by what is in your paypal account. It sounfs like spam that has just managed to coincide with your sale.

See my post ^. Not one of the last couple of dozen are from Paypal themselves but follow a similar format.

If you logged in safely and it says ok to send, then it is, with all the usual caveats.
  • Going all the way back to 2008 in my emails, any notification of payment has come from the buyers email address and any notification / receipt that i've sent money, has come from Paypal.
