When to switch car/home insurance provider

I get prices from the comparison websites every time the policy comes up for renewal, I wouldn't bother switching for a few pounds but so far, everytime I've checked there's been at least £50 or more to be saved by switching.
Most insurers seem to actively penalise loyalty.0 -
Every year.
I can always get a much better price by moving.
Not to the cheapest, but one with a name I recognise, and uk customer service.
Loyalty is penalised if you stay with existing companies normally.0
