just been made redundent and im worried!

hi all i have been working since leaving school in 2001 i moved to a new company in aprill 2010.

i got married on the 3rd of september and went on honeymoon for 2 weeks when i went back to work on the 19th of september i was told im being laid of and will be paid till the end of the week plus any outstanding holiday pay.

im really worried now because i have phoned all the local bakeries in my area and none are setting on.

i have to pay on a monthly basis

rent £480
council tax £124
Food £80
TV license £18
+ other household bills

my wife works about 38 hours a week and takes home about £180 per week.

i have never been on the dole and neither of us claim any benefits or working tax credits?

could some body please tell me what benefits im entitled to and if i could get some help with my rent and council tax, also is their any point in claiming jsa when its only £45 per week when im hoping to get a job soon.......

im really worried and im trying to hide it from my wife of 3 weeks lol
so i really would appreciate any help thank you :(

Not a benefits expert but get applying for JSA (online i think nowadays?) and everything else - that's what it's there for!

Good luck finding a job and don't hide it from your wife - it's no reflection on you - it's just business unfortunately.

After only 3 weeks married, she won't be fed up of you yet and you'll need her support!

The only advice I'll offer is to tell your wife ASAP - hiding it will only cause friction when she does find out (trust me, as a married man it's obvious that women have special telepathy skills when it comes to their husband not telling them things). I hope you get another job quickly, even if its not working in a bakery.
  • Sorry to hear that, my Husband has also been made redundant this week.
Definately tell your wife and also use the website https://www.turn2us.entitledto.co.uk/entitlementcalculator.aspx
as it will tell you what you can claim based on income HTH and good luck with everything
