Laptop not charging

I'm really sorry to barge in and hijack your thread OP, but I have a similar problem with my laptop.
>>
It is a Dell Inspiron 1545 and about 18 months - 2 years old.
Probably the socket on the laptop although I have seen faulty plugs on adaptors cause this. The power socket on a 1545 is on a daughter board plugged into the mother board but you need to lift the mother board to remove the daughter board.
If you press F2 while the Dell logo shows on start up you will get into the BIOS screen, There is an option to check the battery and charging, from memory it's under the "general" tab.0 -
I am very interested in this topic as i can relate to this problem. I am also having problems with charging my Packard Bell laptop, i have admittedly treated it fairly badly, i use a wired internet connection and plug the ethernet cable into an adapter plugged into the mains, i also had the charger plugged in because the battery was knackered, sometimes i forget that it is plugged in and trip over the lead, this send the laptop flying, landing on its side where the charger plugs in.
The charger had been lose for ages because of this, i just had to hold it at an angle just so it would charge and after a while it just stopped charging. I took it to PC World to get checked out and after weeks of waiting to hear back from them they said they couldnt fix it without me losing all my stuff, ( i did say to them previously that i dont want it fixed if i cannot get my important documents back) Does this sound right? Could i not fix it myself.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

Your "stuff" is stored on the hard drive in your machine. This is completely separate to power input socket. Anyone half competent would remove the hard drive and put it safely on one side before working on a faulty socket.0 -
Thanks everyone for your comments/suggestions.
We took laptop into PC world. They wanted £50 to send it away and then started talking about replacing a board at a cost of £100 or so. I've got a friend who is an electrician and has done a bit of work on computers. He's offered to take a look and I reckon it'll cost a lot less than PC world!!!I need to make a new list for 2014
think of something to put on it!:rotfl:
Try harder for 2014 as I never managed it in 2012 or 20130
