Service & MOT £320!!

Options
I'm getting my Citreon Picasso serviced for the first time and wanted to stick with the dealership to make sure it has a FSH if we want to sell, but we have been quoted £320 for a service and MOT, does this seem right?

Wanted reassurance that i'm not being ripped off so any help gratefully recieved.

doesnt sount too unreasonable, the mot is £50 on its own

you can shop around and have done elsewhere...citroen have to hold up any warranty as long as its been done at a vat registered garage
  • Pricing sounds about right but it depends what service it is (mileage/age etc)

Warranty is upheld as long as the service is done in line with Citroen's recommendations as used in their franchised workshops and proof of the service in line with a standard Citroen service would have to be presented - and that oil and parts used were of matching quality to original equipment/parts.

You have to very careful keeping your warranty in check....

Vat registration merely means a company is registered for VAT!

  • Thanks steveo3002 & DealDrivers.

Its actally 3 years old now and we bought it a year ago so we asumed it was due for it's annual service but it's no longer in warrenty, so is there any point in going through dealership?

When my husband spoke with the garage they said it will be it's first service, would it not have been serviced the previous two years? Is this normal?

    Thanks again

Have you considered using Tesco Club Card Deals ? I have my car serviced and Mot'd each year around £80 in vouchers = £320 in deals; they stamp the book and they are VAT reg.

IMHO - stuff the warranty. They are not really worth a great deal after about 18mths. Beyond that it would be very hard for you to prove job should be done under warranty, Citreon will do what they need to say the job is not covered by warranty and it will be very hard for you to prove otherwise

Have the service done at a good local garage that will charge you a lot lot less. We have a Picasso and it had a service and MOT earlier this month for £170.

The resale value won't really be affected by not using a Citreon garage. It will never compensate for the extra you will hvae to pay out. However do keep it serviced, just not with a dealer.

I have had vehicles serviced in main dealer garages before but on several occasions have developed faults all too frequently. Coincidence??? me thinks not.
  • Thanks pioneer, i do have loads of Tesco vouchers i've been saving for no particular reason so i might go for that.

And Jazzycat, thanks. It's not in warrenty anymore so there seems little point in going to the Citreon garage.

I'm still not sure why the garage said it will be its first service though?
  • £320 is about 10% of book for a 4 year old picasso.Cars not worth it.
Most people overlook opportunity as it comes dressed in overalls, and looks like hard work.

3 yrs old so its probably it first full service - 3 yrs or 30k miles

In the past was probably interim services but this is probably first full service where many things will get looked at that don't get touched on a interim.
This does depend on the garage though and knowing Citreon an interim is more of a case of "hello car", "goodbye car".
  • I'm in the same situation but for my Renault Scenic... for the first service after 3 yrs and quote is about the same.... so i keep delaying it cos can't afford it... I have had to do the MOT though....
