Throttle position sensor for a Ford Fiesta?

My car, a Ford Fiesta 05, seems to be using too much petrol, says on trip computer 31mpg. A management error code kept coming up when the car started to "pull" while I was driving.
A friend-of-a-friend had a tester device which he ran on the car and said the throttle position sensor was not correct (?) He then cleared the error code so it doesn't flash up now.

I want to get the fuel consumption sorted as 31mpg seems excessive, so how much is a throttle position sensor for a ford fiesta going to cost me to be fixed?

Thanks for any advice

Throttle sensor is unlikely to be the cause of the fuel consumption.

You dont say what engine you have fitted, Or if you have ever reset the fuel computer, Which
on a lot of fords are as accurate as a blind man counting jelly beans in a sealed oil drum.

Lots of traffic and town work can see economy suffer badly, Had my mondeo down to 26mpg last winter and thats
a diesel. But on clear evening roads i reset the trip and managed over 60mpg on the way home, Couple of sets of lights
    and light traffic.

Throttle sensor £5 2nd hand to £35 new.

And if it was the TPS on a renault you'd be buying the pedal assembly complete, £280 please.

£20 was paid @ the local breakers

The engine size of the car is 1.25L. I took a couple of photos of the mileometer between fill ups and it states I'm getting around 215 miles for £40 of petrol.

How many miles per gallon does that work out at, and is it economical for journeys of around 3 miles to and from work.

    Thanks in advance,

If all you are doin is a journey to work and back of 3 miles then thats about 25 to 28 mpg, (thinking aloud), you can't expect better with a constantly cold engine.

Rag it down the motorway to clean things up and do a controlled run of say 200 miles and then recalculate.

Expect about 40 would be my view if all is good.

No engine will achieve it's projected fuel comsumption figures under the conditions you are driving. ;)

  • 3 miles, It will be running rich for the whole journey to help warm it up.

Around 215 miles for £40 is not accurate enough. Either run the fuel down to the red line or fully fill it and work it
out over several fill ups. Ignore the comments about filling it to the brim is the ONLY way.
If you run it down to the red line it will be just as accurate over several fills.

You think its bad on fuel because the books say 45/50mpg but they dont tell you thats at a fixed speed on rollers
so no wind or tons of traffic. 50mpg @ an average of 50 or 60mph is OK but what if your average speed is 12mph.

You have no chance of achieving the official figures.

3 mile journey get a scooter.
