Issues with my new car

Can anyone give me a hand with this ongoing problem i have with my dealer

I have a new 60 plate megane bought second hand and have had it over a month. I managed to jolt over a pot hole the other week and took it into my local mechanic who reset the tyres and off i went.

I spent 2 weeks no problems and then the car started again to pull to the left. I took the car into Renault here on the Wirral thinking there was a probelm (in for a problem with the window) and afterwards they told me

3 tyres were wrong. 1 had a bulge 1 was fitted directional wrong way around and 1 was a winter tyre

Also the dealer had serviced the car and no stamp and the tomtom button doesnt work

Ive taken it back to the dealer today who said they would fix all the rpoblems

Got home to find tonight that the car still pulls!!
No service stamp as promised!!
No repair to tom tom. Now upto me to contact Renault Liverpool to sort the part!
Supposed to get three tryes new. Back two replaced but the bulge one is still on there

What do i do next??? I wasnt given any paperwork as they were shutting

Phone them first thing tomorrow, ask to speak to the service manager, and then ask him why the work wasn't done.

How do you "reset" the tyres ?
If you want some good advice, if there is any chance whatsoever you can get your money back, rip their arm off, you have just bought a real pig of a make of car and it will be one constant problem after another until it empties your bank account.
The newer they are the worse they get

You cannot expect a dealer to replace a tyre you damaged?

3 tyres were wrong? In what way?

Garage reset the tyres? He nicked your nearly new ones and fitted part worns?

Did you ask them to adjust the tracking? Again you probably damaged that with the pothole
and not unreasonable for them to ask you to pay extra for that.

No service stamp as promised, Did you not check that before driving home, OR not notice it pulled to one side
    within a few hundred yards?

Dont mean to sound harsh but you admit to hitting a pothole which caused damage to tyre and possibly the suspension.

  • In order to answer the questions posed

The 3 tyres were the tyres that i bought the car with. The car has been on the ramp 3 times in 3 different garages and is now been tested in a 4th to see why the car is still pulling

The car has been tracked as well twice. In the first instance everything was fine for 3 weeks on the roads until all of a sudden it once again started to drift

The second time was yesterday at the dealer ship and whilst the car was fine on the road test (i didnt drive it as the service manager did!) and they were about to close

As to the tyres them selves lets see

N/S/F Tyre is directional and fitted the wrong way around- This was supposed to be replaced yesterday and when ive got home i found that the rear good tyre is on in its place
O/S/F Tyre has a bulge in. This may be the problem tyre but the dealer said no issues we will get rid of it and replaced. Not done
O/S/R Winter tyre fitted. This has been replaced as well as the other rear tyre so the backs have two new tyres and the fronts have one with a bulge in and one that has come from the rear!

Moving onto the service history. It has taken 4 weeks to finally figure out it was indeed serviced and by whom. I asked for the stamp and was told on three occassions its been done. As i had to ring them at 1645 and i liv20 mins away it was a dash

As to the TOMTOM ive been told its my job to sort it as its under warranty! No problems i said but where. Oh Liverpool and i live the other side. Oh and they have no contact details???????? I mean come on.

I think its time to go independednt and try and get my costs back

Have you phoned them yet and asked the service manager why the work wasn't done?

I don't - If anything that's covered under warranty is faulty, dig your heels in and give renault a world of hassle until they sort it for you.

I think you're on your own a bit with your issue of the car pulling though - tyres will make little difference to this even if damaged (unless under/over inflated - the safety issue of your mixed tyres is just that, another issue), suspension / steering alignment is far more likely to be the problem. If you have already paid for them to fix this, take it back and insist they do just that.

    Ok problem with dealerships......

You get to speak to a supervisor/manager/advisor who quite frankly has less mechanical knowledge as you, he simply relays (chinese whisper stylee) what he's been told by someone who knows their stuff (the mechanic), then after speaking to you he goes back and tells the mechanic what to do, the mechanic thinks "what the hell is this guy he talking about?", mechanic doesn't want to question the boss man, because he'll just get an arrogant response, so he then goes off confused and doesn't do the job correctly.

Another problem = Each job is given a set time by the people in the nice warm office (where the biggest problem they ever have is a stolen pencil sharpener).
If a job is taking too long (due to seized parts for example) the mechanic knows he's gonna get his a55 chewed, so it's easier for him to "forget" to do the other jobs and keep his time sheets looking good, than it is to spend longer on a job and risk disciplinary action for not working hard enough.

At any garage or dealership I always try to get into the work area and speak to someone who knows more than the guy in the nice suit.... That way you get a pretty good idea of whats what and the mechanic see's you as a person rather than simply another order barked out by the boss.

  • Hi All
I have a meeting with the manager at 12pm

He confirmed the tyres were replaced and maintains that on the test drive the car behaved normal. He has said he will come out with me and have a look

As to the steering alingment it has now been in three seperate garages and been tracked all those times etc

    1. After the first pull went into a friends garage who checked everything underneath and reset the tyres. Problem here was that the dodgy tyres werent picked up (ie directional and winter tyre). Im guessing after muych research that the bulged tyre is the main cause of the pull again and i will replace this at my cost as i am the one that seems to have caused the issue. The other two where replaced by the dealer as they agreed they should never of been allowed on the road
    2. Went for warranty work at Renault Wirral (issue of creaking window fixed by bodyshop). Whilst in there i happen to know the staff there i mentioned that the car was pulling again for the first time in 3 weeks and the issue with the tom tom. No probs we will have look
Went back and was told by the manager i know that there were 3 defective tyres (as previously stated) and to get back to the dealer and get them changed as they are illegal and you should of never been allowed out of the garage. As to the tom tom was then told the unit is damaged possibly due to a drink spill(before i had the car before anyway says ive doe it) and gave me a price. However the dealer have dealt with this and it will be dealt with under warranty at Renault so no issue there
    3. Went into the dealer to have 3 wheels replaced, the tomtom looked at, wheels aligned and service book stamped.

I got there at 520 and they were due to shut at 530!! Went on a quick road test which i didnt drive the manager did. Ok i should be shot for not checking this and the servicr history although i was assured it was done!
Anyways i drive home and notice the car going to the right again. So i get home and look at the tyres. Sure enough both rears are repalced, even though only one was defective but they moved the other to the front of the car
I noticed though the bulge one hadnt been replaced. Like ive stated ill replace this as its probably why the car is pulling still but three independent garage workshops have had the car in and NOT 1 has reported suspension etc problems. I also happen to trust my friends garage who did a full inspection underneath and like i said after the tracking was done at garage 1 the car was fine for 3 weeks!!

Anyways long essay but see where it goes at 12. Gotta say they are polite and professional and yes i know what customer service is as i work as a store manager in retail too. Hopefully this can be rectified today
