  • Thanks for all the replies, very much appreciated.

Can anyone let me know how on earth can I give Georger the Metacam WITH food though?

Cats are nto like dogs, you can not force feed them or throw something and shout "catch"... sigh...

George in his lampshade collar gets up several times per day, picks a bit on his food/drink and goes back to sleep.

    Sigh....

He is the one cat I have that is not tempted by any treats (raw meat, ham etc - George was never interested) so can I give him metacam WITH food?

    :(
  • Gettingready. I have a ten year old tabby called Bubbles who ALWAYS used to turn her nose up at treats until one day when i impulse bought her a packet of Dreamies. (they are in the cat food aisle in most supermarkets) They come in salmon flavour (blue packet) chicken (orange packet) beef flavour (pink packet) Now my cat cant get enough of these even though she wasnt interested in treats before. Hope George gets well soon.

Get something REALLY tasty - gushy food, a bit of tuna etc, and squirt the metacam on, moosh it up, and hopefully he will NOM it!

Oh just read properly - oops! Once he has eaten you can use the syringe to VERY carefully squirt the metacam into his mouth

Mine will take it squirted onto hills dry food!
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Sorry OP - I missed the lack of interest in nommy food

    Would tablets be better?

You need to get some pain relief down him for a few days at the very least - if the actual administration is a problem, then I would as you say, call the vet x

Oh I have no problems giving him Metacam as such - I just worry about not giving it WITH food.

I just syringe it down his throat (liquid) but have no way of doing so WITH food....

After food is fine too, if not better - the main thing is not to give it on an empty stomach x

I am not explainign myself.. sorry...

That is what I worry about, giving it on empty stomach as he hardly eats really - he eats but tiney little bits throu the day and I am not with him 24/7 non stop to see when he has just eaten...

Vet said to give him metacam around midday.. but I am not sure when he eats really as leaft him food (dry and wet) and water in the cage to pick on whenever he feels like...
  • If you are having problems getting food into him then we had a similar problems with a cat we had. She was ill for a long time and basically had to be syringe fed including all her meds. Hills Science Plan do a tinned food for poorly cats which comes in a small tin and is bascially a paste type consistancy. You can also mix with a bit of water to make it runny and then put in a syringe if required. Our cat was very fussy but even she would like some of it up and the remainder I mixed with her meds and syringed it into her. It is also very high in calories (so less needed) and high in protein and is recommended for cat post surgery. It is quite expensive but well worth it. You might be able to get it from your vet or we ordered from petmeds or vetuk. HTH

As much as I am against crap food - got some Felix as good as it looks (George loves this one) and he ate half a dish and gave him Metacam straight after... (sigh of relief)

Keeping the sachets just for him for when he is not well, other cats are not talking to me LOL
