Does Economy 7 still work? You used to be able to get your electricity for at about 1/3 of the cost at between 12-7am of day time prices if you have an economy 7 meter.

It should save a few quid if you put your phones, laptops, and any battery recharging things on to recharge over night.

Don't fireman/women tell you to turn everything off charging and standby at night? Or I m I paranoid as I had a little fire in the home last week?

Be aware that some Economy 7 tariffs may charge you almost double the standard rate for any energy you use during the day, which can quickly cancel out any savings you've made through using Economy 7 at night!

I know it is not perfect but it is often a tariff that is unheard of.

If you do use it then you can do things like put your washer on a timer and wash at night.

I charge stuff at night and it seems safe enough. The biggest risk for fire is standby things over heating.

Do you have economy 7 then Phil?

If you do, why ask if it still works?

If not, trot downstairs and tell your parents how they can save a few bob!

Tends to work best if you have overnight storage heaters, otherwise the savings can be minimal even if you put the washing machine/dishwasher on at night.

There's lots of discussion about it on the Utilities board though ;)
