Should you be charged by an insurance company to remove a deceased person?

Most insurers charge less for policies covering two, similarly-aged, drivers, not more. So there wouldn't be a reduction for removing one driver.
I certainly wouldn't have bothered notifying them. Far better to have waited until renewal and then changed companies.0 -
Hi BevK, sorry to hear about your Dad
Did the insurance company not make a pro-rata refund? They no longer have to insure your dad, therefore that is a risk that they no longer have to cover for the remainder of the insurance term.
If they issued a new policy in your father's name, I'd suggest you complain formally to them and ask for compensation for the distress caused as well as your time in dealing with the matter.
If they have the audacity to ask you to pay a fee in such circumstances, you should not hesistate to complain against them if they mess up. Similarly if you miss the dealine to get a refund on the car tax for this month as a result of their incompetence, they will have to pay for that.
There will be no refund on the tax disc as it was a disabled tax disc, so no fee payable.0 -
Sorry to hear this bad news, and the very best to you all at this time.
I'm surprised at the attitude of the company concerned.
Having had to sort out various affairs for members of my family who have passed on i found that almost every company involved was sympathetic and would deal very quickly with any queries.
You have probably spoken to some anonymous call centre operative, try escallating the call to a manager, or indeed email the dept concerned.
I'm quite sure once someone sensible at the company get to hear about the situation that it is resolved quickly.
If not please keep us posted, we'll remember.0
