after a bit of advice do i have a case
hi all after a bit of advice 4 weeks ago my husbands car a ford mondeo 55 plate used as a taxie are living . well 4 weeks ago my hubby came home after that went to start his car and it made a rattling noise and wouldnt start .we got aa out witch said it was asuspected timing chain fault. we thought oh no not again as this car has had 2 timimnig chains on and we just spent over £3.000 on getting a new turbo and injectors the year befor spent £2.000 on timing chains ect.we took it to fords main dealers (arnald clark) to sort out as the timeing chain we had on was only 13 month old (they fitted it ) we took car in on the monday by the thursday the car hadnt even been looked at so we complained why hadnt the car been looked at as it was a working car.the service manage said the car shouldnt have been booked in as the didnt have the staff to do the job as they where on holiday ( not are fault ) so on the thursday we go a phone call off ford saying the bottom of the engine had
seized up and there was nothing wrong with the timing chain and it would cost us £4.500 to get a new engine for the car.well we couldnt afford to pay this and the car wasnt worth this. so we decided to buy another car same year same make and modle because we spent so much money on the car to let go as scrap we could save the parts incase out happened on this other car . so today while stripping the car down the cylinder head was taken off we have now found out the engine was not seized at all it was the starter motor at fault i just feel ford wanted rid of us because the didnt have the staff to do the job and ive had to go into debt of £4000 to get a new car on the road for us to make a living to feed the kids and pay are debts if it wasnt for a family member lending us this money we would have had to go bankroupt. and a could of baught a starter motor for less than a £100 been to ford today and got the fob off treatment but i think we might have a case to take this further

Hi Becky,
Did you pay Arnold Clark to strip and diagnose the fault ..if so did you get a report in writing and did the car come back to you part stripped ?It's not just about the money0 -

Can you break that up a little so it's actually readable??
Edited to add, after trying to understand that again, it seems that the dealer made a wrong diagnosis. This made you effectively write off the car??
You then bought another and stripped the offending car later which wasn't terminal??, but had another fault/ was mis diagnosed.??
Am I correct so far??
If so I would expect their error to amount to no more than the cost of the diagnosis work as they didn't tell you to replace the car.
And that result would be if you where lucky??
Precious little comeback, IMHO of course,I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

if you actually have it in writing that the car has been stripped and diagnosed as siezed then id say you have a good case against the garage for at least being incompetent.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

bottom of engine is ok once starter motor taken off the pistons are all moving up and down0 -
Ok,
It won't be easy and knowing Arnold C's reputation it won't be quick but you do have a case.
From when you got the car back do you know what bits have been reomoved further to AC's strip ?
while in ford today the service manage did say to us we didnt ask him to ivestage this should we of had to ask him as there the macanics not us0 -
I am missing the point here, but effectively ou now have 2 cars, albeit one with an easily remedied problem.
Why don't you fix the starter motor, keep that car.
Sell the one you bought and pay your relative back.
Then file a complaint against The dealer.
Simple isn't it?0
