Help with budget honeymoon ideas

hi everyone, we're getting married in spain next year and have just booked our venue which has come in at double what we budgeted for and only place we can save money from is the honeymoon. We had planned 2 weeks in maldives/mauritius but we've had to change that now to maybe doing a mini moon to somewhere in europe for around 5 days after we get back from spain and then we're gonna go to NYC at xmas were we got engaged.

We will have roughly £1000 to spend on flights and accommodation, i know it isnt alot but we still want something nice and little bit special. I was thinking italy, maybe almalfi coast but with the prices i'd be lucky to get a sandwich there for a £1000. The obvious answer is to spend a wk in spain since we're there but i think i'd like a change of scenery, i know i'm very picky and demanding

any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated,

Croatia! It is fab, so beautiful and very cheap.

The Amalfi Coast is amazing too and doesn't have to cost a lot, but accommodation there is quite dear. But you could stay in Sorrento (which has cheaper and more varied accommodation) and do day trips to the various towns and villages.

Sicily is also amazing, particularly Taormina and the north coast.

I also love the south of France - Provence especially.

We're going to Sicily for our honeymoon, we got it from recommendation from someone on here. Its a week in a old manor house which has been converted into a hotel, not far from the sea, but you get a hire car too.

Its 1 week, b&b, flights from B'ham to Palmero and a car and its only costing £1k!

Its just what we wanted as its 'proper' Italy!

I will second Taormina! It's fantastic! Not too expensive, and the local restaurants are the best.

What time of year are you looking at. Is the 1k for everything, so you're looking at an AI place? Is 1 week ok as you'll find plenty of places for 1 week (depending on time of year).

In summer hols I managed a week AI in Majorca for me and my daughter at just under £700 for us both, wasn't bad for Summer hols. But my H2B and I are going to Egypt AI for a week in October half term and that's just over £1k so obviously time of year (and school hols) counts for a lot.

Are you after a relaxing break, an active break, sunshine, beach, pool?

we're going to Nice for a week for under 1k, booked easyjet flights for £275 and found 2 lovely hotels for just under £700 just got to chose which one to stay in.

thanks for all the great ideas, that'll be my weekend sorted researching online, never really thought about sicily but it looks amazing, gonna research croatia too, other halfs cousin has a house out there so gonna find out where and how much it would cost for renting and flights.

£1k is just for flights and accomodation, not really interested in going AI as we love going around and trying lots of different food rather than being restricted to hotel. Didnt realise we could get so much for our money

Sorry, I will just add the link to the website and then you can look yourself. All the holidays on there have hire cars included. We went into the travel agent and managed to get it the same price as the internet, but with the knowledge that you can go into the travel agent at any time and give them what for!!

The place we are stopping at isnt available until next year, so you cant do a property search on it, but if you look at holidays from next April, Italy, Sicily, Collesano, Gargi de Cenere Hotel, is where we are staying.

There are loads of lovely places on there, but we liked this one the best.

Its not to everyones taste, its not 5 star, or on the beach, but its exactly what we wanted!!

thanks for all the info guys, we think we may have come up with a solution, OH cousin has offered us use of his lovely house in Brtonigla in Croatia in the Istria region, it may be quite useful to us because its so close to italy and we could potentially have day trips there.

Still researching the area at the minute so if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated!
