Student Train Fare Help

Hello not sure if I should be posting this here but I am a student looking for some advice about train fares and so on.
I have just started my first year of university and at the moment I am paying £3.90 for a return to my university from my home. I attend uni 3 days a week at the moment but I have just got a job at ASDA so may need to travel to work on my days off via train as well.
Basically I would like to know if there is any good offers for students on train fares like yearly or monthly or even if student accounts in banks offer anything. I don't have a student bank account just yet been holding on to find out what other people at university have got and stuff.

You need to do some research in to the different ways you can pay your train fares.
A young person's railcard as melancholly suggested would give you a third off the price but is usually only available to use after 10am. Natwest usually include a railcard with their student account but I've no idea if they're doing it this year.
If you are travelling every day and going to be travelling at peak time it may be worth getting a weekly or monthly season ticket.
Your local council or the train company may do special deals for students in your area so it's worth checking their website. Also check with your student union and university website as they may have details of travel schemes in your area.0 -
I am a student pilot with a private pilots certificate. I am trying to find another pilot that just wants someone to fly with them, but would be willing to train me anyone got connections, or could offer me some advise.

:Thi there,
My daughter is currently travelling for Westbury - Bath everyday as a student.
Total cost £146.40 a month
Looking at all the Discounts viable for my daughter to travel, the following conditions of travel restrict any form of discount. If you are a student of the age of 17 and have to travel to lessons at 10 am or before.
16 -25 Railcard - £28 (£65 for 3 years online purchase only)
Aged 16-25 or a Full Time Student aged 26 or over? - the discounting Railcard restricts travel at 10 am or before.
Network Railcard - £28
Restricting timing apply to Monday to Friday (10am or before) and my Daughter is over the age of 15.
Family and Friends Railcard - £28
Children have to be between the age of 5 - 15 years of age.
Advance value when you buy Advance ticket
This is only for tickets not buying a month ticket in advance
is there anyway i can reduce the total cost of my Daughters travel from £146.40 a month, all the Discounting Railcards exclude students and travel on or before 10am?. Looking at the offers for £28 (I believe the answer is NO)
I sent this breakdown of condition and restrictions for students to First Great Western, a reply is still pending?0 -
If you need to travel at peak hours then you need to pay the premium for that. It really is that simple. Some councils have some grants for school-age pupils, but once they reach university level it's what your loan is for.0

I travel from Newbury to Southampton several times a week during peak times. I have a 16-25 railcard (I am a very mature student). I get my ticket from the manned ticket office and I always get a peak ticket with discount, ie ticket usually costs £23.60 without railcard and costs £15.60 with it. I ahve had it checked every time I travel as well and never had any complaints from the inspectors.0

That is because the ticket cost is over the £12 minimum fare. You can use your railcard at peak times, as long as the fare is over the minimum.
An anytime return to X would cost me £30, but I could use the railcard to knock it down to £20. But I wouldn't be able to use the same technique to go to Y, since the peak fare is only £10.
However, if you are going to be travelling regularly at peak times, it might well be worth getting a season ticket. They can be a lot more flexible, and a lot less hassle - no queuing at the ticket office every morning!0
