    I am going to let my notice run and see what happens over the next few weeks.

    Is there a reason why the other company have not made you a formal written offer ?

    My advice would be to use this as an opportunity to write your own perfect job description that you would like to do and present this to your current company.

    In the meantime, I have picked out a comment above. Although you are clearly valued in your current company, nobody is indispensible.

    You need to make your mind up what you want and negotiate (if appropriate) sooner rather than later, otherwise your manager (should) be making plans to recruit your replacement.

    As you have 3 months notice period, this does not mean that you can just change your mind in 3 months time.

    If I was your manager I would start looking for a replacement straight away in the hope that somebody could start and have a decent handover from you before you leave.

    The other company do not want to be seen as poaching me, in case it ticks off my current employers and they stop sending work to them (my current employers are a client of theirs). The idea is that I work my notice, have a month off and then they advertise a job and I apply - which is very cloak and daggers, and to be honest has put me off going there anyway! I do appreciate their concerns about possibly losing work, but there is always that risk anyway, if I stay put , or leave.

    I have made a list of what I want to do, in preparation for a meeting with my bosses next week, which they have requested. On the list there is give and take on both sides. I actually negotiate for a living so I have no qualms about asking for what I want - and more money really isn't it. I just want to be in control of things that I am ultimately liable for and have less admin, which is time consuming, boring and that someone far junior could deal wiith anyway. At the current time, I am partially dependant on other people doing certain things to assist me in my job, and they don't. I have no control whatsoever about that, but my job does depend on them doing what they should be, and when they don't, I am somehow responsible for that. Hope this makes sense without boring you with the finer details.

    SandC you hit the nail on the head, I am extremely efficient at my job because I have been there so long. They know it too, which is why they want to try to keep me. I will keep you posted and thanks agains for taking time to read and reply. It is good to hear other view points, and help me decide what to do.

    Although you are paid well for part time, it sounds like you work hard for it.
    Other people should be able to cover your role while you are on holiday etc... I have had that though when you return to the office and even the general post had not been opened and there were things that needed urgent attention! quite different where I am at the moment I have nothing to do most of the time (as you can tell with me posting on here now!) which is just as frustrating but again people say well at least you are getting paid to do nothing!

    I think you get into a comfort zone after 18 years of being with the same company.
    You could say that you would like to do 3 days a week but you can be available to do an extra day as overtime if needed. I personally would have waited for the offer in writing first, they have to advertise the job and you then apply? what happens if they get someone else who can do full time hours who will accept the same salary? They shouldn't be thinking about what your current company thinks, I would as others have said, as you current boss would like you to stay - write up what you want from your role, how you need support from your colleagues and negotiate with them.

    I don't think that you should be saying that someone more junior should be dealing with the admin as that sounds like you think that you are above your colleagues, some people like doing admin and it shouldn't make them less valued which maybe why they are not helping you with the workload as you are coming across that way?

    magenta22 the fact I am doing all the admin is because my colleagues think its beneath them to do it themselves! I must be the best paid Office Junior around! Had a really constructive meeting with the top boss today. Aired my grievances and concerns and he took on board all I had to say. It has been agreed that I will list what I want, and they will look at it next week. He stressed that he really didn't want me to leave and that I am a valued member of the firm. I guess it has given them the kick up the backside they need if nothing else! I am going to give the situation some serious thought over the weekend. Once again thanks for the responses, all taken on board and considered, and have all of which have helped me a great deal.
