Am I really forced to accept wrong reading?

  • I had exactly the same issue when I moved from British Gas to EDF for gas. Both suppliers were given the same reading on switch day as requested.

It turned out that neither supplier used the reading I supplied - the final bill from British Gas used the same estimate to close my account as EDF used to open the account with them. The difference between the estimate and actual reading was small but nevertheless wrong!

At the time I just couldn't be bothered taking it any further for such a small difference but the question remains unanswered where does this estimate come from and why is it allowed to override an accurate actual customer supplied reading?

    Hi Actuary78,

We do have a process where we can agree a new transfer reading should the reading in question be incorrect. If you e-mail me your details to onlinecomplaints@scottishpower.com I will see of we can get a speedy resoloution to this for you.

    Kind regards
