Seagate external hdd - no longer working - steer clear of Seagate

as someone else as mentioned it could be the PCB inside the enclosure stopping it from being seen, i had the same trouble with an enclosure i bought via ebay, after a few connections to my pc it kept telling me i was trying to connect a high speed device to a slow connection, even though all my connections are usb2, and this was a usb2 external.
I went to novatech, bought a £8 enclosure and put my 2tb drive in that enclosure and its been working perfectly.
For the cost of delivery back to seagate it would be cheaper to try another enclosure. You didnt state if yours is a 2.5in model or a 3.5in enclosure. i'm assuming is a 3.5in, however the 2.5in enclosure is about £5.0 -
Mmm not sure how to reply to that one - are you saying that it must be something I am doing to have 2 faulty drives? Beg to differ as they only ever sit on my desk - never dropped/sat on or anything done that would damage them... perhaps its that rather large magnet I rest on top of it or the fact that I used it as a leaky coffee cup mat...;)
No need to reply leezuk.
It's a very unfortunate person who gets TWO failed drives though, so you must just be unlucky.
I look after family and friends computers too, and I'm the only drive failure I've experienced.
Think you blaming one particular drive manufacturer is a bit unfair though.
Still, it's an excellent reminder to others to back up their data. :T0 -
Been using Seagate for years, never had a problem, just bought a new one for my latest upgrade project."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0
