Theres a HOOGE aldi just opened by me. I have previously used Lidl and didnt think that could be bettered but the Aldi is fantastic. About the same prices as Lidl, I spend average £15 a week and I live on my own too. Aldi is better than Lidl's only due to the larger selection and more choice.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. I am a recent Aldi convert. We eat so well now and at much less cost then when I shopped in Tesco. They sell all the store cupboard basics for pennies compared to the big supermarkets and the continental selection is fantastic. Like a really cheap deli.0

I'm a convert to Aldi & Lidl since last March. I find the fruit & veg is much better at Lidl than Aldi, as you select your own.
I don't like the steak or mince from Aldi, it seems to have a strange taste.
However, I do like the Norpak spread - tastes like the Lurpak spreadable, but considerably cheaper.
I find that I don't tend "to pick stuff up for the sake of it" as I used to in Tesco.
Mikki2d, you're right about the store cupboard basics for pennies, and the cheap deli bit.
If you pick your times right, the queues are too bad.0 -

I got stuck in a queue for what seemed like hours, behind an individual whose moneysaving clearly involved cutting out deodorant, and shampoo, and possibly even soap too. Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)0 -
That was a Netto. I went there to get the 19p seeds I had read about. I bought 5 packets of seeds I didn't really want,as the range was rather scant.I also drove 15 miles each way to get there, so hardly a saving, WHEN WILL I Learn.
Went to a Lidl today in lunch, which again I found rather frantic. It seems I need to get better at grabbing items from shelves, and barging in rather than shopping as normal.A bit more pleasant though.
Can't see it continuing though, If I burn a gallon of juice to get there and back, I need to save a fiver on a shop, maybe once a monthe perhaps. Most people overlook opportunity as it comes dressed in overalls, and looks like hard work.0
