Air Conditioner Unit For Home (merged threads)

There are rumours that this summer is going to be a really hot one. I have been thinking about getting myself an air conditioner for my bedroom, as i hate sleep hot nights!
I have looked at these mobile units you can get - but require external pipework.
Can anyone reccomend a good unit, which could be easily enstalled and moved around the home - or should i really opt for professional installed spilt units.
I have looked at some of the units at B&Q but my budget is around £350 considering it will only be used 3 months of the year!
Should i save my money and buy a fan? or some other cooling systems? any reccomendations??0 -
Hello AWOL
I've merged your thread with this existing thread about Air Conditioner Units. If you read back from post #1, you'll find some useful information.

hi, anyone know where i can get a portable air condtioning unit from?(cheap as possible, but effective!)
just enough to cool 1 room!
are they any good?
thanks0 -
I bought one from ebay last year for under £100 I think, we just it in the smallest bedroom, which is the study/chill out room and it gets like an ice box in there.
When everyone is out in the sun, we are all in the chill room!!
I can't take this heat!
I would recommend them, I'd love one in every room in the house.
You will use extra energy, not sure on how much, I did not care, you cannot put a price on comfort.
We do tend to be a "hot lot", waking up with wet hair, when its below 0 outside.
I would advise getting one now before the prices shoot up though.
Oh and we have to have a big vent going through the window (so make sure it will fit by a window) and they are noisy too.:happyhear We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other.

Just had a quick look and the one I got is £270.00 + now, so you might be best to look online?:happyhear We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other.

Hello jammiev
I've moved move your thread to the 'In my home' board so that it can be merged with the existing 'Air Conditioner' thread.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.

They work just like a fridge, but instead of the cold being used in a sealed box a fan blows it into the room. As you are removing heat from the room you MUST get rid of it somewhere, that is what the hose from the back of the machine is for.
All they need is power, they do produce some condensate water which either goes into a tank or out of a drain pipe.
The one on ebay:- Rubbish !
Go to B & Q or similar, have about £200 in your pocket and look for an air conditioner, not a cooler or treatment unit or ioniser or ..................0 -
Im looking for a home / office air conditioning unit ahead of the summer 'heatwave'. Ideally, it will be able to plumbed in to drain the extracted water however this is not completely necessary. Any recommendations?
Not interested in any of the fake ones - it must be powerful enough to do the job of keeping a large conservatory cool.0
