Can I claim anything

hi ppl,

the problem i have is that i am currently on sick due to having a lumbar discectomy last week (bit of disc removed to free trapped nerve) have been told by my employer that they are refusing company sick pay which is basically my wages and will only be getting ssp,

i just wondered if there is any help out there for me as ssp wont even cover my mortgage payment and looks like they arent going to get it sorted in time for my next mortgage payment next month

obviously i do work and do not claim anything and never have since leaving school in 1987 before anyone thinks im trying to sponge anything, i just need a little help for couple of months while im recouperating (2-3 month recovery due to type of work)

thanks in advance

Are you in a union, have they said why they wont pay you company sick pay.

I think its 13 weeks before you get any help from the state re Mortgage help.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • yeah im in unite and did what compnay policy states and raised a stage 1 grievance they had "informal chat" with my manager and he decided no i wasnt getting csp took it to stage 2 but that was 2 weeks ago seems they can break policies anytime they want as ours states 5 days to raise stage 2, but they seem to be waiting on HR for a date for said stage 2 i know nothing is going to get sorted before my mortgage is due and i dont think im going to get csp because theres been a crackdown due to sickness levels
  • your best bet then is to speak to your mortgage provider NOW make them aware theres a problem and see if they can offer any help, possibly a repayment holiday or something simlar, dont leave it till you cant pay act now
just one thought what does your contact of employment say about sick pay?
  • hi,

it did say dependant on sickness absence in rolling 12 months had to be 3 occasions or under and then it was managers discretion, unfortunately this is my 3rd but my last absence was due to havin the lumbar epidural steroid injection in my spine in april and the time before that was last september (2010) but all this changed earlier this year because across the company sickness levels rose to 12% even though our site was 3.1% and they want the national to be 5% or less, thanks for the info regarding mortgage company will be doing that today
