Does a living room HAVE TO have a sofa?

I have a few threads on here about sofas and choosing the right one.

Still haven't decided.
I have the option of buying two armchairs by lazyboy, but I already have one other lazyboy arm chair.

The result being NO SOFA, just three big soft arm chairs that all recline.

Would this look odd, or would it be ok?

Pros: I can aim the armchairs at the TV, no issues of width in the room.
Cons: might look like a waiting room, no means of a couple to cuddle up, no means to put a laptop to one side but still use it.

Any thoughts?

Its not about how it looks, its how you use it that matters. You don't entertain guests very often? You don't want to be able to lounge around, lie down on your side, curl up, etc?
  • It depends what kind of guests you entertain. Mates or a wife = fine. Someone you're dating and just brought home = bit awkward.

I sometimes curl up, but if I had a recliner, I would put my feet up instead, as I have with my current new Reclining armchair.

I'm told it would look like a waiting room.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. Simply cuddling on a sofa would not be possible.

The situation is that I cannot get any sofa over 185cm, but I really want an electric recliner.

the only size available in that is 204cm, or 191cm. But the La-Z-Boy Georgia is simply the most comfy I have ever sat on, but can only fit the 145cm one in.

It's not a problem of space for people, as I rarely have people here, BUT... my parents stay next year, and I have to sit at an angle on the sofa to watch it... and my feet would be over Mum's legs. Not terribly convenient.

Do you really care what others THINK?

Surely all that matters is you and how you use YOUR room.....

It's what I think too..... not sure if I'd think it would look like a waiting room.
And often if enough people think it would, then it probably would!!

You can get a small laptop table for that.

And do the cuddling in the bedroom. Makes it easier to move on to, ahem, well, you know.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • Yes but u want to cuddle up on the sofa watching a movie. Can't be done!

Its more important that the room functions well than the way it looks.

Some people dont have TV's which seems weird to me but if they dont watch it why have it?
