Duplicate thread - this has also been posted on the benefits board. Unfortunately, altohugh the OP states that she needs advice, she hasn't said what her question is.
OP what are your daughter's care and/or mobility needs? Does she see a specialist for her condition? Is she on any medication?0 -
All of mine are hypermobile in one way or another, eldest has EDS which means his joints dislocate frequently (as in every day and from doing very simple things, like shrugging or walking) and has connected POTS for which he has beta blockers plus has a heart murmur, he does not claim DLA (nor has he attempted to).
Youngest son has been diagnosed with HMS since he was a toddler, he does receive DLA but that is more to do with his other conditions than the HMS.
I am also hypermobile which has caused arthritis and other problems, am now crutches reliant and a wheelchair user for longer trips but also do not claim, nor attempted to claim DLA.
Middle son is not in receipt of DLA either.
Having a certain condition is neither here nor there when it comes to DLA, the impact it has, the care or mobility needs etc do...and even then there is no guarantee. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Nobody claims for a specific illness, they claim because they have significant mobility and/or care needs which are above and beyond the normal requirements of a person of similar age.
If you are asking whether you can claim because of the affects that HMS has on ones body then yes, it is possible; my primary physical disability is HMS, but I also have fibromyalgia which complicates things further.
It really depends on each individual, and how much evidence there is to back up their needs as stated in the application.0 -
Its not in the input codes, and ;
- at the risk of boring people !
- disabled is disabled
- ill is ill
- both require care
- but ill is not disabled
- DLA is for disability, not illness
- too many people who are ill claim to be disabled
As others have said list in detail her care / and /or mobility needs and people here will try to help.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem.
