I.E. causing issues on Vista Laptop. Help please

Hi All
I've had my laptop for about 3 years now and have only ever used IE to download firefox. I want to uninstall it as it is now regularly causing error popups refering to a DLL but having hunted for a while I can't find an uninstall option anywhere other than to uninstall an update which seems to have now installed again.
Can someone tell me how to obliterate this program from my harddrive without destroying my machine please. I've thought about the high powered magnet more than once.

This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.

It should be under control panel within then add/remove programs.You should have something that says add/remove windows components within it.0

what version of ie is it can you upgrade which might sort the issue out . I thought ie was built into windows .0
