Tesco Price War

On going around some Tesco's stores today, it appears that they are planning on a new round of price wars, with them planning to do a large price promotion once stores shut on Sunday, for opening on Monday.

You mean they're putting all the prices up so that they can have a massive price drop?0

Tesco said it would be simplifying promotions, reducing buy-one-get-one-free deals in favour of everyday lower prices.
It will also end a "Double Clubcard" points promotion in four weeks - reinvesting the cash in cheaper deals.
But points handed out under the loyalty card scheme will have FOUR TIMES the value - up from three - meaning bigger discounts at restaurant chains such as Strada, Cafe Rouge and Pizza Express.
Mr Brasher said: "We're giving customers a more straightforward shop - reducing the number of promotions and putting the emphasis on clear and reliable savings that everyone can benefit from."

Sources claim Tesco will ditch promotions in favour of a "round pound" strategy where hundreds of goods will cost either a quid, three pounds or five pounds0

choose which news story you want to read on the £500million price cuts

Tesco probably want to save themselves some money, all these revolving 'offers' must take time to implement from back office to store.
Anything for them to stop messing about with faux discounts is good by me. Other than confusing customers I can't see any reason to have offer after offer on the same products with the price going up and down like a yo-yo depending on which offer is in place.
One common example is Frijj. Last week on 2 for 1 (except the new flavours which were introductory at £1.00 - now £1.50), this week they are 3 for 2. In the past, they've also been BOGOF and Half Price.0 -
This article explains it well ; http://www.myfinances.co.uk/cut-your-bills/2011/09/22/tesco-starts-supermarket-price-war-with-500m-cuts-initiative
I will miss the BOGOFS etc as some of them work well with coupons etc
I don't trust that we'll be ''quids in'' but its a good tactic to reduce staple items like bread and milk etc
I do still prefer Asda tbh as their CS have proved much better to me as I had to make 2 heated phone calls to T's when they overcharged me & I gave up on the refund in the end as they were ummin and ahhing too much about it , so they owe me bleeding money!!!

Less BOGOF's & more £1/ £2/ £3/ £4/ £5 deals

so things costing £1.75 will now be £2 etc etc:(0
