I agree with the chaps ..exhaust rubber snapped
Go out to the car and shake the tail pipe about and see if it seems loose and you can get it to make the noise
If not get back to me
Hi Silk,
Just tried shaking the exhaust pipe and it doesn't really move at all in any direction. Gave it a good wriggle and there was a really faint knock but really nothing at all compared to what you hear when driving.
The exhaust seems really secure and doesn't move.0 -

Ok ... still tempted to think of mountings ...will PM youIt's not just about the money0 -
if its just a rubber exhaust mount than should only be a few quid, if the exhaust has just come loose wich happend to me then bolt just needs tightening up. if it is something to do with ehxaust then only way i can see it costing lots is if it started to break and thats why it has moved slightly0

Thanks!
The exhaust doesn't seem loose at all, its really secure. I need to get it looked at I think, its much easier on ramps!
Hopefully it's nothing too major. Its a real pain in the butt!
Thanks!0 -
I know this is a really old post but I'm having the same problem.
Back box of the exhaust fell off a month or so ago and so went to Kwik Fit to get a new one fitted (as well as the middle piece that was apparently rusted - whatever!) but ever since then it makes a knocking noise when I turn right (especially when going up slightly uphill) and more so when I have people in the back. It tends to be mainly when the car is first driven and then the sound eases off slightly. Any ideas what this could be? I did take it back to Kwik Fit and they said it was something to do with the heat plate and that it was rusty and causing the problem but a bit dubious about that explanation!0 -
You will get this problem if they fit the wrong rubber mounts, trust me. It was the cause of my knocking so I got a mechanic friend of mine to put the car on a ramp and change the rubber mounts on the back box for genuine Fiat ones. Problem solved.
I would be interested in hearing how the OP got on with their problem.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0
