How did they get my new card details?

Brought insurance with Elephant last October with Barclays debit card that expired this July
Renewal notice from Elephant with new card number & expiry date on.
Who gave it to them?!
And no I have not contacted Elephant for a claim.
And would this be the same Barclays that stops my card each time I buy something from abroad to prevent fraud. Erm yes it is.

The only contact with Elephant was this afternoon to stop renewal as hopefully find something cheaper.0 -

Fair enough. I assume that is in the small print that I didn't read. Still seems a bit naughty of Barclays (and presumably other banks) to give card numbers out willy nilly.

It's hardly willy nilly - it's not as if they're, say, giving it out to all insurance companies, just the one you dealt with in the past for the purposes of continuing the contract you hold with them.Conjugating the verb 'to be":

I don't believe for one minute that Barclays have given this information out as they are not a party to the agreement between OP and insurance company.
They would know nothing of this arrangement - sorry but I still do not believe OP's story.0 -

That's certainly the standard practise, whereby the original card is still billed irrespective of expiry date. I've never heard of a bank providing merchants with the new card details. Strange.Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right!0 -
I think a trip to Barclays is my job for the day.
The payment was for a one off payment of the premium, not a direct debit for monthly payments. I can sort of see the argument had it been that, but Barclays to say yep no problem help yourself to £650 is a bit harder to understand.
Jones, I was doubting myself to start with. But the bit of paper from Elephant has my new my new card number/expiry date on and as I said previously the only contact with them was to stop the renewal going through.0
