Glow Plugs..diagnostic dilemma!

I bought a 3yr old Fiesta from a local dealer with 3 months warranty. The engine management light came on yesterday and I rang the dealer who stated I would have to pay £50 + VAT for a diagnostic test before they would consider doing any repairs ' under warranty'. My husband has his car, another diesel, serviced locally and his mechanic put the diagnostic machine on my car and it came up with Glow Plug problem.
In the conditions of the warranty, there is NO mention of cover on glow plugs, but can anyone help me whether these are called something else. I don't want to pay for a diagnostic test to tell me the fault ISN'T covered!!

The dealer won't accept any other diagnostic check other than the one he will charge me for, and so I don't know whether to get it fixed locally (to avoid paying an unnecessary charge) or whether to go with the dealer and argue that glow plugs are covered! He keeps mentioning that I am probably putting 'dirty fuel' from the supermarket in my car and that is likely to be the cause....??! Really? And would my car be 'mended' if I paid out for superior diesel then??

I would really appreciate your help.
Thank you

The diagnostic machine is to help the mechanic fix the car, you do not need to know what it says and he should not be charging £50 to use a machine that tells him how to fix the car, does he charge for spanners as well ?

Do you have the code the other guy got, I can look it up for you in the ford beta-tech software .

To be 100% honest, any used car warranty is worthless and the money you pay for it is best saved towards other repairs.

With the dealer, I would scare the living daylights out of him and say you told trading standards what he said and they are coming out to see the car under sale of goods act.

  • On a Ford diesel the glowplug light flashing usually means a fuel system fault. Never seen a glowplug
fault on a ford. They either work or they dont.
These days a lot of cars dont really need the glowplugs unless its very cold.

1/2 hour tops to test them. Probably classed as service items and wont be covered. Mine are original
and 7 years old, No problems.

Agree with this.Try the trading standards line first and if he wont play ball actually contact them.He should be doing everything for free on a car thats left him less than 3 months ago.
Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.

Got a huge Buzz out of it.
