Old loans how can I find details?

Hi I posted on another part of the ppi forum about having a loan in the early to mid 90s and wondered whether I would be wasting my time to see if I had ppi with it. Someone kindly replied and said it was worth trying. The only thing is, is that I can't find any details of the paperwork. I believe it may have been with either the Woolwich or Barclays. I have contacted Barclays and they can see my details dating back to 1990 when I opened an account with them when I was 18 but say I have not had a loan with them. They also gave me an alternative telephone number dealing with the Woolwich and they say they cannot find any details of any insurance. Is there any way I can find details of the loan I had and who it was with?
Many thanks for any advice offered.

Hi there
As they obviously still hold details by telling you no ppi with your loan, then in this case they must still hold data of the accounts.
A SAR request for data mainly only goes back to the last 6 years, although its known that some hold data from even earlier years.
Its a chance to take, but you could request a SAR if you want to, and see if they send anything back, you pay the one off charge of £10 cheque or postal order and they have 40 calendar days to comply.
SAR letter below link.

They should otherwise return your payment with a letter to explain.

It's usually the paper files/ application forms that would be destroyed after all these years. Data often still exists on their computer systems.0
