Further releasing seems to suggest that removing the box does not hurt the TV but I couldn't say for sure.

Does you MIL have her original paperwork? What is the APR and payment terms? How long has she got to run and what is the proposed redemption figure? The problem here is that this is a hire purchase agreement and thus the goods legally belong to the company until the contract is satisfied. On the other hand, you would only be guilty of breach of contract if anything at all and I suspect this could easily be defended in court given the manifestly unfair terms. The company are going to get very nasty on the phone and it would be better if someone who was a little tougher dealt with this issue from now on. If you MIL finds them intimidating at the moment, she isn't going to be able to stand up to the. If they threaten her with police and court regardless of whether they can back up their threat, which I don't think they can. Anecdotal evidence from the Internet suggests they play rough but they're all mouth and no trousers. It's your call.

  • MIL is coming to ours tomorrow so will have a talk to her about it.

Apparently the guy who is coming tomorrow didnt have a set appointment or anything, but she was supposed to be phoning him once the laptops were in her possession for him to come and collect them and for her to sign something. I am assuming this contract that they want her to sign is just something that pretty much signs away all her rights to either the items/her cash that she has already paid and the right to complain further. Which is a very bad idea IMO. Especially given that chances are she does that and then they say she still owes more and continue hounding her for cash :/

I think I am going to advise her to see a solicitor over all of this too. Obviously myself/partner would accompany her if she choses that.

Shes going to bring every bit of paperwork she has ever recieved from them with her tomorrow so we can have a look over them.

Will be able to give more info then.

Thanks for the help so far :)

Hi, I am a representative of BAYV......... BAYV

Do you have permission from MSETowers to post on MSE?

If not you need to get it urgently as company reps are not allowed to post with approval.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • you can buy a new power supply for the tv.

Unplug it from the tv so your giving them the tv power cable iykwim?

Either send the box back or when they come to collect goods/money hand the box over.

After 90 days of them fighting you, It will drop off there computers anyway.

I had a similar problem but with the tv. I'd paid over 2 years out of a 3 year contract. I refused to hand the tv back but gave the boz back i had a few nasty letters/phonecalls but nothing sincce. (after the 90 days)

Reported company post as spam, as they don't have permission to post here.

What a disgusting company. Beggars belief...

  • OK, this is an awful story and sounds like BAYV are predators with no morals...

It is actually good that someone got in touch with her though surely, albeit by using a method they weren't allowed to. At least the OP has heard from them now and heading for a possible resolution.

Extremely happy with the result of this.

Area manager came out for visit with MIL in my home, so partner and myself could ask any questions needed.

She came with all documents they have on MILs account, statements, all agreements etc.

Basically, they are still looking into the corrupt employee who they had working for them. MIL does still owe £1500 according to statements (disregarding what was stolen from her, but there is no proof as of yet how much was stole, so this is understandable IMO). Area manager says if ONE laptop is returned, the whole debt will be cleared and the meter removed from MILs TV and she will have no more contact from the company either. This is more than fair I think.

Coming out tomorrow to collect laptop and get her to sign the contract. There will be a part on the contract that states that once the laptop is in their possession, all debts are written off. Then straight from here, they are going to her house to remove the coin meter from her TV.

Pleasantly surprised actually. The area manager seemed very eager to help, and could not be more apologetic or understanding about what has happened. I was expecting a total nightmare and a long fight from reading about other peoples battles with this company.
  • Great result. A very expensive lesson for your MIL about getting receipts, and expensive debt though.

Its such a shame she was robbed by that guy and that all that money can't be put towards the debt so she can keep the laptop, but by giving it back and being rid of the company for good at least it is all sorted.

If she needs a laptop you can get a decent one for about £250 these days, so maybe she could put a money box besides the TV and feed that with pound coins instead! :)

Thanks for letting us know the outcome.
