Compensation from bank?

Options
Hiya, wondered if I could run this past you guys for thoughts?

Should I accept £50 from my bank as sufficient compensation for:
1) Accidentally cancelling my bank card, leaving me without cash for two weeks.
2) Not sending my new bank card to the right branch, despite promising to do so.
3) Failing to log my complaint for 2 months, and then failing to send me promised letters?

This has been going on since July 2011, and I genuinely can't decide! (Apparently my branch rejected their first offer of £20 for me)

Thanks in advance.

Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam
  • 1 Why could they not cash money for you at any branch of your choice?
2 Mistakes happen - would it not have been better and quicker to have it sent to your home address?
3 What promised letters are these? One to say sorry or of legal importance?

Accept the free gift and move on.

Assuming you are not out of pocket in any other way, it seems more than reasonable.

£50 is fairly reasonable for that. I got a fair bit less for something of potentially far more serious consequence, which I was quite happy with. £50 is a decent payout.

  • Yep, I agree, will accept!

Thanks very much for the responses. I just wanted to check if I was missing something here! I have spent a fair whack of my time calling, emailing and visiting my branch on this, which was annoying and quite difficult to work around my job!

Final points back: They couldn't post it to me as I'd not lived there long enough, or some similar security statement; the missing letters were to first of all acknowledge my complaint, and also to respond to it.

    Thanks guys!

£50 on the face of it is a very reasonable figure, but If you believe you have truly spent more through phone call costs, travelling to the branch, writing/emailing and your time then don't hesitate to politely explain this to them (in writing) and request what you think is a fairer figure.

Obviously this will drag things out longer, it may be worth your while, but sometimes it's just easier to move on ?
