Closing halifax account nightmare

I had the same problem with the Halifax and this was before they changed the computer systems over.
Took x9 phone calls, 2 branch visits, 5 letters and 3 extra ones to the complaints department.. All completed around in a month and a half.
They did give me £75 to say Sorry though..
I was just stupid enough to open the Savings account after the poor service I had already received.
My own fault.David

I had two ancient passbooks for accounts with Leeds Permanent (merged with Halifax at some point) got a letter last year (first contact from them in a decade) with reference to the two accounts - rang the number, got the address and simply wrote to them with reference numbers etc.
Got a cheque for over £150 less than a fortnight later.0 -
I had exactly the same issue last week. I wanted to switch from the Web Saver to one of the Online Savers with a higher interest rate. Opening the new online saver ones was easy - all online, but when I phoned up to close the Web Saver the guy said they used to be able to close it over the phone, but not any more.
You need to write to them with the account no and sort code details. You also need to tell them which account to put the interest into. Address is:

guys sorry you've been given the wrong info, it cant be done in branch or over the telephone banking line. However the online helpdesk can close it off for you once you reduce the balance to the minimum,

I reduced my Websaver account to nil and tried to close it via the online helpdesk as whitewater suggested but was told I need to visit a branch or write in to get it closed.0
