Warm Front people

Just had a salesman at the door claiming to be from Warm Front or similar, offering cavity wall/loft insulation.
His opening line was "are you on any benefits, love?" I wasn't about to answer that at the door and said I wasn't interested as I have all necessary insulation anyway.
He then said the government is about to bring in emissions testing on houses, like they do on cars, and if a house isn't sufficiently insulated the householder would be fined.
I've never heard of this, and wonder if he was just making it up as he went along.
Anyone know if it's true?

He's making it up. I work in the energy efficiency sector for a Local Authority and I've not heard of it.
Warmfront don't cold call either. I get many complaints about companies lying like this.0 -
My local council teamed up with Warm Front a couple of years ago and we all got free loft and cavity wall insulation. Not sure about the emissions bit but Warm Front are a legitimate company.0

Like most good scams there is a hint of truth hidden underneath layers and layers of utter tosh! The EU brought in rules that required homes to be energy efficiency tested - in the UK this was enacted in legislation which brought Home Information Packs into existance - so when you sold your house you had to have an energy report. When HIPS were scrapped this part stayed so you still have to get an energy report when you sell your house - they appear right at the bottom of rightmove pages for example. So the energy efficiency "test" is sort of real, but it only applies if you sell, and there is no fine!Adventure before Dementia!0

That's put my mind at rest, I had visions of yet MORE money to have to pay out!
Whoever he was, surely they don't get told to just knock and say "are you on any benefits love?"
You shouldn't be expected to give out information like that to a total stranger who turns up at your door!0 -
