Talk Talk direct debit

Hi,

I have been with Talk Talk for about two years and I am seriously looking for an alternative provider.

They are now taking their money by direct debit very quickly; used to be a certain date and they have now changed it twice to roughly two weeks after the bill is listed. Do not inform you in writing of this, only on-line and I do not always sign in to look at my account, so have a nasty surprise usually when I look at my bank statement.

Their customer service has declined also. Had problem with broadband connection recently and they were useless.

Until you see arun of DDRs it is difficult to be too critical IMO they may just have adjusted their cycle, providing it is still monthly it is no worse than switching supplier and still getting an unwelcome date.

I am not sure about there customer service as I struggle to ever reach it through all their IVR switchboard options. When I do get through it is to somewhere in the far east and they are clueless (last attempt 2 weeks ago for unwanted calls). IMO all companies are as bad.

I have noticed they are now billing me for >60 mins duration calls that I haven't paid before. On the basis that was in my favour I will not complain too loudly.

I have also received telesales calls from them trying to sell me "upgrades" in the last month, 3 times, triggered no doubt by higher than normal billing due to necessary 0844 calls:mad:

As you've actually agreed to the DD to be taken on any date they like, they're not doing anything wrong. Most firms like to get the cash in ASAP after the bill has been issued, and some issue the bill THEN take the funds, unually before the customer has even seen the bill. The only way to prevent this is to pay them when YOU want to - and end the facility.

As long as you have been notified they are doing nothing wrong, the DD rules state that you must be notified in written format prior to any change in collection dates.

My DD date changed some months ago but I did get an email some time prior to that advising me of the fact.

You don't get anything in writing nowadays as everything is online to cut down on the bills. If you had paper billing (at extra cost) then you would have received notification by post.

If for any reason you have not been notified of a DD collection date change in written format and say you incurr a bounced DD charge you can go back to the Company and advise them of the correct procedure according to the Direct Debit user guide that they must adhere to and reclaim the fee from them.
