My first battle in the war against my debt monster is won!!!!

Hi to everyone on the DFW board.

I just felt I had to make a thing of this...........I have paid off my Store Card, in FULL and CUT IT UP!!!!!!!:T

I am a fairly newbie, have posted a SOA (which, after doing a spending diary was WAY out) and am trying to follow the great advice for you wonderful people and it must be working, coz today I have one less bit of plastic!

Dont feel anyone has to reply or comment, I just wanted to shout about it. It feels great. At worst the debt on that one card was £1500, at 29% interest. I know there are others here who are in lots worse, but each debt is a personal demon, no matter what size. And I have killed this one.

What feels better, paying it off, or cutting it up?

Do critisise what they say, and what they do, especially if what they say is different to what they do. They can help that"

  • I am not sure really. I have such a dependancy on plastic, that it is a BIG thing to cut up a card, but knowing the balance is zero, and I can close the account and never see another statement is overwhelming. Purse seems empty all of a sudden.

  • Well done!!!
  • Have 2 more cards left (£1500 on each) so one of those, I guess. Loan runs its course in September, so maybe (fingers crossed) I could kill another 2/3 debts this year??

  • I am quietly chuffed with myself. Also paid back OH £500 I owed him this weekend.

This could be THE year!! When I am finally debt free and able to start saving.

Well done, just make sure that you also close the account and then it will get updated on your credit record....eventually...

  • I am sooooooooo looking forward to doing that. Should I ask for written confirmation that the account is now closed? Or just keep details of who I speak to and when? This is all new to me!
